Effect of severe plastic deformation process on microstructure and mechanical properties of AlSi/SiC composite

Wojciech Maziarz et al.

Summary: AlSi11 matrix composites reinforced with SiC particles were fabricated by high pressure die casting assisted by ultrasonic mixing. A severe plastic deformation process was conducted on the composite using modified channel with twisted output (TCAP) at temperatures of 350, 400, and 450 ?. The TCAP tool enabled the refinement of the dendritic cast microstructure of the composite, resulting in a matrix with equiaxed a(Al) grains and twinned b(Si) particles. The TCAP process also caused a decrease in sample hardness due to dynamic recrystallization. The composite exhibited high plastic deformation and compressive strength when tested by compression tests.

Effect of Equal-channel angular pressing on mechanical Properties: An overview

Akash Gupta et al.

Summary: Equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP) is a severe plastic deformation process that can produce ultrafine grains with superior mechanical properties. The number of passes and processing routes in ECAP have a significant impact on hardness, tensile strength, and elongation of different alloys. The BC route demonstrates the highest strength among all processing routes, but there are also some limitations and disadvantages associated with the ECAP process.

ECAP of titanium alloy by sever plastic deformation: A review

Mallikarjun B. Koujalagi et al.

Summary: Severe plastic deformation (SPD) method is an emerging technique in grain refinement, allowing grain refinement without changing the dimensions of the specimen. A novel SPD method that imposes a higher plastic shear strain during the modified Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP) process has been proposed in this research. ECAP is suitable for industrial scale materials and can introduce large shear strain through repeated extrusion steps.

Effect of ECAP temperature on the microstructure, texture evolution and mechanical properties of pure magnesium

Prakash C. Gautam et al.

Summary: Equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) by route-A is considered to be the most effective severe plastic deformation technique for achieving ultra-fine grain size in hexagonal closed packed magnesium. In this study, the 8th pass ECAP was successfully carried out at different temperatures, resulting in smaller grain size at lower temperatures. Microstructure and texture evolution remained unchanged with varying temperatures, indicating consistent deformation mechanisms and dominant slip behavior. As the grain size decreases, the mechanical behavior shifts from sigmoidal to parabolic, pointing towards a change from twin to slip-induced deformation behavior.
