A newfound ionic liquid with unprecedented activity for multiple base-catalyzed reactions

Wenjie Deng et al.

Summary: This study discovered a novel organic catalyst 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium pyrrole ([EmIm]Py) that exhibited superior activity and practicality in carbonate synthesis, achieving remarkable efficiency even at low temperature. The catalyst outperformed most reported catalysts in various base-catalyzed reactions and showed potential operability in industrial production of dimethyl carbonate (DMC). The mechanism of propylene carbonate (PC) and methanol interesterification over [EmIm]Py catalyst was proposed through a combination of experimental and theoretical studies.

Facile Preparation of Poly(ionic liquid)s-zinc Halide Composite Toward Highly Efficient Conversion of CO2 into Cyclic Carbonates

Bing Li et al.

Summary: A class of novel poly(ionic liquid)s-ZnX2 complexes were fabricated and used as efficient heterogeneous catalysts for transforming CO2 and epoxides into cyclic carbonates without organic solvents or co-catalysts. The catalysts showed pronounced activity and selectivity under optimal conditions, and retained substantial catalytic activity after multiple recycling tests.

Responsive ionic liquids to catalyze the transformation of carbon dioxide under atmospheric pressure

Fang Liu et al.

Summary: Novel ionic liquids with the ability to adsorb CO2 were synthesized and demonstrated efficient catalytic ability for the conversion of CO2 into cyclic carbonates without the need for co-catalysts or solvents. The reusability of the catalyst was also established, presenting a new pathway for exploring the potential of ionic liquids in chemical fixation of CO2.

One-Pot Synthesis of Dimethyl Carbonate over a Binary Catalyst of an Ionic Liquid and an Alkali Carbonate under Low Pressure

Kai Liu et al.

Summary: A mild and highly efficient approach has been developed for the one-pot synthesis of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) from epoxide, carbon dioxide, and methanol under low initial pressure. The use of a bicomponent catalytic system composed of a hydroxyl-functionalized ionic liquid and an alkali carbonate played a key role in the successful transformation. The bicomponent catalytic system demonstrated excellent reusability in four runs and achieved high yields of DMC from both propylene oxide and ethylene oxide under optimal reaction conditions.

Transition anionic complex in trihexyl(tetradecyl)phosphonium-bis(oxalato)borate ionic liquid - revisited

Manishkumar R. Shimpi et al.

Summary: It was found that Li[BOB]·nH(2)O salts were not suitable for the synthesis of high-purity orthoborate-based tetraalkylphosphonium ionic liquids, while Na[BOB] was found to be more suitable. Therefore, a preparation protocol for ultra-pure Na[BOB] was developed, resulting in boron-impurity-free ionic liquids with significantly different physico-chemical properties compared to those containing transition anionic complexes. This work highlights the implications of boron-containing transition anionic complexes in tetraalkylphosphonium-orthoborate ILs used in various applications.
