Liposomal chrysin attenuates hepatic ischaemia-reperfusion injury: possible mechanism via inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome

Rui Huang et al.

Summary: The study prepared liposomal chrysin (LC) and investigated its effects on hepatic ischaemia-reperfusion (HIR) in a mouse model. LC administration increased chrysin concentrations in plasma and liver tissue, reduced HIR-induced liver injury and cell apoptosis, inhibited inflammation response, and significantly decreased NLRP3 inflammasome activation. LC shows good biocompatibility and has the potential to be an effective drug for treating and preventing HIR-induced injury.

Cysteamine mitigates torsion/detorsion-induced reperfusion injury via inhibition of apoptosis, oxidative stress and inflammatory responses in experimental rat model

Oladele Afolabi et al.

Summary: The study found that cysteamine plays an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic role in testicular torsion/detorsion reperfusion injury. Cysteamine reversed the oxidative stress, inflammation markers, and reduced sperm motility seen in IRI rats. Additionally, cysteamine inhibited apoptosis in the testicular tissue, providing protection against reperfusion injury.

Glutamine prevents upregulation of NF-kB signaling and caspase 3 activation in ischaemia/reperfusion-induced testicular damage: An animal model

O. A. Afolabi et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated for the first time that glutamine administration improved testicular ischemia/reperfusion injury in a torsion/detorsion rat model by maintaining testicular redox balance, and testicular integrity and function via inhibition of ischemia/reperfusion-induced upregulation of NF-kB signaling and caspase 3 activation.

Glutamine restores testicular glutathione-dependent antioxidant defense and upregulates NO/cGMP signaling in sleep deprivation-induced reproductive dysfunction in rats

M. A. Hamed et al.

Summary: Sleep deprivation has detrimental effects on male reproductive function, including reduced sperm quality and testicular injury. In addition, it leads to erectile dysfunction and decreased libido. Glutamine supplementation has been found to attenuate the negative effects of sleep deprivation on reproductive function.

Omega-3 fatty acid rescues ischaemia/perfusion-induced testicular and sperm damage via modulation of lactate transport and xanthine oxidase/uric acid signaling

R. E. Akhigbe et al.

Summary: In a rat model of testicular torsion/detorsion (T/D), administration of omega-3 fatty acid attenuated damage to testicular and sperm cells, increased serum testosterone levels, and may be beneficial in protecting against T/D-related oxido-inflammatory damage and male infertility.

The impact of reactive oxygen species in the development of cardiometabolic disorders: a review

Roland Akhigbe et al.

Summary: Oxidative stress is involved in the pathogenesis of cardiometabolic disorders, regulating physiological functions but also leading to disease development when in excess; multiple mechanisms cause an increase in free radicals in the heart; oxidative stress is closely related to the development of obesity, dyslipidemia, insulin resistance, diabetes, and hypertension.

Concomitant administration of HAART aggravates anti-Koch-induced oxidative hepatorenal damage via dysregulation of glutathione and elevation of uric acid production

M. A. Hamed et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that both anti-Koch drugs and HAART can independently induce liver and kidney toxicity, while their combined administration exacerbates the biochemical alterations. The drugs reduce glutathione content and increase uric acid production via upregulation of the ADA/XO signaling pathway, leading to oxidative and nitrosative stress, as well as DNA fragmentation in the liver and kidney.
