Epigenetic Reader Bromodomain Containing Protein 2 Facilitates Pathological Cardiac Hypertrophy via Regulating the Expression of Citrate Cycle Genes

Zhirong Lin et al.

Summary: The present study identified BRD2 as a novel regulator in cardiac hypertrophy, and revealed that it could facilitate cardiac hypertrophy through upregulating TCA cycle genes. Inhibition of BRD2 reversed pathological cardiac hypertrophy, cardiac fibrosis, and cardiac function dysregulation. These findings highlight the potential therapeutic role of targeting BRD2 in pathological cardiac hypertrophy.

Diffuse myocardial fibrosis: mechanisms, diagnosis and therapeutic approaches

Begona Lopez et al.

Summary: Diffuse myocardial fibrosis is a common lesion in chronic cardiac diseases, resulting from excessive deposition of collagen fibers throughout the myocardium. The composition and properties of the fibers play a role in the detrimental effects on cardiac function and clinical outcomes in patients with heart failure. Various clinicopathological phenotypes of diffuse myocardial fibrosis exist, and understanding the mechanisms and potential therapeutic strategies is essential for personalizing prevention and reversal in patients with heart failure.
