Far-UVC (222 nm) efficiently inactivates an airborne pathogen in a room-sized chamber

Ewan Eadie et al.

Summary: Krypton Chloride (KrCl) excimer lamps, also known as Far-UVC, can efficiently inactivate pathogens in the air, including coronaviruses. Lab tests show the lamps do not have adverse effects on the skin or eyes. The lamps have been proven effective in reducing the pathogen load in a room-sized chamber.

Visible-light-driven S-scheme mesoporous Ag3VO4/C3N4 heterojunction with promoted photocatalytic performances

Hind Alshaikh et al.

Summary: The mesoporous Ag3VO4/C3N4 photocatalysts exhibited significantly higher photocatalytic Hg(II) reduction performance compared to pristine g-C3N4 and Ag3VO4 NPs. The synthetic mesoporous 2.4%Ag3VO4/C3N4 photocatalyst showed the best photoreduction performance among all the synthesized nanocomposites. Through the synergetic effect of S-scheme heterojunction structure, high surface area, and promotion light harvest, the mesoporous Ag3VO4/C3N4 photocatalysts achieved efficient photoinduced charges separation to enhance Hg(II) reduction.

Degradation of Chloramphenicol Using UV-LED Based Advanced Oxidation Processes: Kinetics, Mechanisms, and Enhanced Formation of Disinfection By-Products

Xinlu Qu et al.

Summary: UV-LED-based advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are effective in degrading chloramphenicol (CAP), with UV-LED/PS reducing the formation of dichloroacetonitrile and trichloronitromethane during chlorination. UV-LED/PMS produces more disinfection by-products. The degradation rate of CAP increases with higher oxidant dosage in UV-LED/chlorine process.

Treating disinfection byproducts with UV or solar irradiation and in UV advanced oxidation processes: A review

Xin Lei et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the degradation kinetics and mechanisms of disinfection byproducts (DBPs) under UV and solar irradiation and in UV-based advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). The study highlights the differences in photodegradation rates of N-nitrosamines and halogenated DBPs, and the potential predictors of photodegradation rates under low pressure UV irradiation. Additionally, the review summarizes the reaction mechanisms under UV irradiation and in HO center dot-mediated oxidation, providing insights into the degradation pathways of various DBPs.

Degradation of ciprofloxacin using UV-based advanced removal processes: Comparison of persulfate-based advanced oxidation and sulfite-based advanced reduction processes

Hannah Milh et al.

Summary: In this study, the efficiency of UV-based sulfate radical advanced oxidation processes (SR-AOP) and UV-based advanced reduction processes (ARP) in degrading ciprofloxacin (CIP) in wastewater was investigated. It was found that the UV/PS process was more efficient than the UV/PMS process in SR-AOPs, while the UV/sulfite process was the most efficient among ARPs. The optimal process parameters and the contribution of different reactive species were determined for each process.
