Isotropic Iodide Adsorption Causes Anisotropic Growth of Copper Microplates

Myung Jun Kim et al.

Summary: This study reveals the mechanism of forming Cu microplates by adding iodide ions in Cu nanowire synthesis. The addition of iodide ions decreases the rate of Cu addition to Cu(111) while increasing the rate to Cu(100), resulting in the formation of microplates. The presence of iodide ions correlates with higher yield of microplates through activation of {100} facets and passivation of {111} facets.

Outstanding Oxygen Reduction Reaction Catalytic Performance of In-PtNi Octahedral Nanoparticles Designed via Computational Dopant Screening

Jeonghoon Lim et al.

Summary: This study improves the ORR activity and stability of PtNi octahedral nanoparticles by incorporating a novel dopant, In. Computational screening and experimental validation show that In-doped PtNi/C exhibits superior ORR performance and stability compared to PtNi/C and Pt/C, attributed to the creation of a new active site and blocking Ni diffusion to the surface.

The Roles of Citrate and Defects in the Anisotropic Growth of Ag Nanostructures

Heng Xu et al.

Summary: This study quantifies the effects of citrate and planar defects on anisotropic atomic addition through measurements of single-crystal electrochemistry and anisotropic nanocrystal growth. Citrate significantly reduces the rate of atomic addition to specific crystal facets, while seeds with planar defects exhibit anisotropic growth rates much greater than expected based on citrate passivation.

Chemical Identity of Poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone) End Groups Impact Shape Evolution During the Synthesis of Ag Nanostructures

Suprita Jharimune et al.

Summary: Ag nanocubes are mainly synthesized using the polyol method, where PVP plays a crucial role in shaping the nanoparticles. The presence of different end groups on PVP influences the formation of AgNCs, with certain end groups leading to the preferential formation of nanowires. This study provides insights into the role of PVP in nanoparticle shape control and offers a unique opportunity to design nanostructures with specific properties.

Improving the Purity and Uniformity of Pd and Pt Nanocrystals by Decoupling Growth from Nucleation in a Flow Reactor

Ruhui Chen et al.

Summary: By redesigning the experimental setup and manipulating the reduction pathway of the precursor, nucleation and growth of nanocrystals can be separated, resulting in pure and uniform products. This method has been successfully applied to the synthesis of Pd nanocubes and shows potential for other types of colloidal nanocrystals.

Facile Synthesis of Platinum Right Bipyramids by Separating and Controlling the Nucleation Step in a Continuous Flow System

Ruhui Chen et al.

Summary: Colloidal synthesis of metal nanocrystals with controlled shapes and internal structures requires precise control over both nucleation and growth processes. A method for the facile synthesis of Pt right bipyramids (RBPs) was reported, in which nucleation was separated from growth and controlled in a continuous flow reactor. Temperature was found to play a crucial role in determining the internal structure and growth pattern of the seeds, while Br- ions served as a capping agent for the Pt{100} facets and regulated the reduction kinetics through coordination with the Pt(IV) ions.

Structural Regulation of Pd-Based Nanoalloys for Advanced Electrocatalysis

Menggang Li et al.

Summary: Palladium (Pd)-based materials have attracted attention as potential catalysts to replace platinum (Pt) catalysts, but the need for high activity and stability has made development challenging. Alloying and structure-controlled strategies have addressed this challenge by optimizing adsorption/desorption behaviors towards reaction intermediates. Tuning the dimensionalities of Pd-based nanoalloys has further increased electrocatalytic activity.
