Inhibition of biofilm formation induced by functional graphenic materials impregnated in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) skin

Fernando Antonio Gomes da Silva et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the effectiveness of functional graphenic materials (FGM) incorporated into tilapia fish skin in reducing biofilm formation, especially with higher antibiofilm activity against Gram-positive bacteria. Negatively charged FGMs were more effective in preventing biofilm formation, indicating potential for FGM-impregnated tilapia skins as a treatment for burn wounds.

Sustainable removal of Cr(VI) using graphene oxide-zinc oxide nanohybrid: Adsorption kinetics, isotherms and thermodynamics

Simranjeet Singh et al.

Summary: In this study, ZnO-GO nanohybrid was synthesized through a solvothermal process for the removal of hexavalent chromium from aqueous solutions. The nanocomposite showed excellent adsorption capacity for Cr(VI) at near-neutral pH levels, following Langmuir isotherm and pseudo 2nd order kinetics model.

Low-Voltage Bacterial and Viral Killing Using Laser-Induced Graphene-Coated Non-woven Air Filters

Abhishek Gupta et al.

Summary: The study introduced a polyimide non-woven supported LIG air filter with exceptional antibacterial properties, demonstrating effective inactivation of aerosolized bacteria at low current densities. The results suggest that low current density levels at very low voltages can substantially remove both bacteria and viruses, offering new possibilities for air filtration applications.

Superhydrophobic Candle Soot as a Low Fouling Stable Coating on Water Treatment Membrane Feed Spacers

Chidambaram Thamaraiselvan et al.

Summary: Membrane separation processes, including reverse osmosis, are essential for water and wastewater treatment in water-scarce areas. Biofouling is a significant challenge, but the development of an ultrastable superhydrophobic antibiofouling feed spacer has shown almost complete elimination of biofilm growth. The superhydrophobic nanostructured surface with embedded candle soot nanoparticles exhibited a 99% reduction in biofilm growth and could lead to improvements in industrial processes.
