Trans-Contextual Model Predicting Change in Out-of-School Physical Activity: A One-Year Longitudinal Study

Hanna Kalajas-Tilga et al.

Summary: This study aimed to test the long-term predictive validity of the trans-contextual model in adolescents' out-of-school physical activity. Results showed that perceived autonomy support from PE teachers predicted autonomous motivation in PE, which then predicted autonomous motivation in leisure-time. Peer and parent autonomy support also predicted autonomous motivation in leisure-time. Autonomous motivation in leisure-time indirectly predicted physical activity intention mediated by attitude and perceived behavioural control. Intention predicted self-reported physical activity participation, though in the opposite direction to prediction. Further longitudinal studies are needed to verify these results.

Adolescents' Perspectives on the Barriers and Facilitators of Physical Activity: An Updated Systematic Review of Qualitative Studies

Joao Martins et al.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review on adolescents' perspectives on barriers and facilitators of physical activity, analyzing the views of approximately 1250 adolescents from 13 countries. The main barriers and facilitators of physical activity were presented and discussed under five higher-order themes: individual factors, social and relational factors, PA nature factors, life factors, and sociocultural and environmental factors. By framing adolescents' voices transnationally, this study provides updated evidence and discusses innovative implications for promoting active and healthy lifestyles.
