How heterogeneous technological progress promotes industrial structure upgrading and industrial carbon efficiency? Evidence from China's industries

Jianmin You et al.

Summary: The bottleneck in improving China's industrial carbon efficiency lies in the unequal contributions of carbon emission technology and energy technology, as well as neutral technology and capital-based technology. Clarifying how heterogeneous technological progress enhances carbon efficiency through industrial structural upgrading is crucial to overcoming this bottleneck. The study examines the effects of four levels of technological progress on carbon efficiency under two technical classifications and provides insights into the suitable path for promoting China's industrial carbon efficiency. The research findings demonstrate that energy technology has a greater direct effect on improving carbon efficiency compared to carbon emission technology, and neutral technology is more effective than capital-embodied technology. Indirectly, progress in capital-embodied technology enhances industrial structures and carbon efficiency, while progress in energy technology positively and significantly impacts carbon efficiency through green upgrading of industrial structures. Additionally, the level of industrial development, government environmental governance, and energy structure also play a role in carbon efficiency.

How does fiscal policy uncertainty affect corporate innovation investment? Evidence from China's new energy industry

Huwei Wen et al.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between fiscal policy uncertainty and corporate innovation investment in Chinese A-share listed companies in the new energy industry from 2007 to 2019. The findings suggest that fiscal policy uncertainty significantly reduces innovation investment, largely due to the decline in government support incentives. Product market competition, however, mitigates the adverse effects of fiscal policy uncertainty on innovation investment. Bank credit constraint serves as the mechanism through which fiscal policy uncertainty restrains innovation investment.

Summary: Based on the traditional framework of resource mismatch theory analysis and existing literature studies, this paper constructs a model to measure the resource mismatch of China's service industry and empirically analyzes the impact of digital economy development on resource mismatch. The findings reveal that the resource mismatch exists in China's service industry, but the digital economy development can significantly improve the resource mismatch. However, the improvement is more obvious for emerging service industries. Policy suggestions include government intervention in the capital market, development of emerging service industries, and formulation of different digital transformation policies for different industries.
