The Relationship between Neighborhood Characteristics and Homicide in Karachi, Pakistan

Salma Hamza et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the spatial and temporal patterns of homicide incidences in Karachi from 2009 to 2018, revealing that homicide hotspots expanded and decreased over different time periods. The number of homicides was positively related to the percentage of population speaking Balochi, while negatively related to unplanned low-density residential areas and police patrolled regions. The findings suggest that the relationship between homicides and influential factors varies across the study area, and the analysis methods used can be applied to explore violent crime in other cities with similar social contexts.
