Experimental study on the effect of the black wick on tubular solar still performance

Mohamed M. Z. Ahmed et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of a low-cost cotton wick material on the performance of a tubular solar still. The results show that the device with the wick has higher productivity and efficiency, as well as lower water desalination production cost. The black cotton wick increases the device's productivity and efficiency by 29.11% and 24.45%, respectively, and lowers water desalination production cost by 40.21%. The improved device can produce 5.1 L/m(2)day of water desalination at a significantly lower cost, meeting the basic needs of individuals in small and isolated communities.

Chronological development of innovations in reflector systems of parabolic trough solar collector (PTC)-A review

Punit V. Gharat et al.

Summary: The parabolic trough collector (PTC) technology is the most mature and cost-effective solar thermal technology, with significant advancements seen in support structures and tracking systems. Glass reflectors remain dominant due to their specular reflectivity and durability, while the durability of metal/polymer sheet reflectors under cyclic weathering conditions remains a question mark. Geared motors are favored over hydraulic actuators for the support structure.
