Characterisation of geomembrane and geotextile interface short-term creep behaviour in a dry condition

Yi Lu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the interface creep behavior between geomembrane and geotextile in the liner system. The results show that the textured geomembrane and nonwoven geotextile have a larger interface friction angle. The creep displacement can be estimated using a power equation, and longer duration creep tests are recommended for a better understanding of the mechanism.

Effects of curing environment and period on performance of lime-GGBS-treated gypseous soil

Wentao Li et al.

Summary: Gypseous soils pose a threat to transportation infrastructure, but lime-activated GGBS can effectively treat these soils. This study investigated the performance of lime-GGBS-treated gypseous soils under different curing environments and periods, and provided recommendations for field applications.

Preliminary Study on the Behaviour of Fibre-Reinforced Polymer Piles in Sandy Soils

Yi Lu et al.

Summary: This experimental study assesses the behavior of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) piles under axial and lateral load in sandy soil. It is found that surface roughness, confined pressure, and relative density determine the shearing resistance of soils and the bearing capacity of FRP piles under axial load. The flexural stiffness of FRP piles is influenced by the FRP type, pile diameter, and aging in the environment under lateral load. An alkaline environment is more aggressive to FRP piles. Sand types also have a significant influence on the behavior of the piles.

Effect of pre-introduced sodium chloride on cement hydration process

Yuanzhang Cao et al.

Summary: Chloride-based accelerators are widely used in cement hydration, but the effect of the interaction between Cl- and SO42- has not been focused on. Research shows that sodium chloride can accelerate cement hydration, but the acceleration effect weakens as the amount of sodium chloride increases. The formation of ettringite precedes Friedel's salt in the early stage of hydration.

Adsorption and Hydraulic Conductivity Studies on Bentonite in Presence of Copper Solution

Saswati Ray et al.

Summary: The study focused on the influence of copper on two different bentonites with various concentrations, with findings indicating that pH 5 was most effective for removing Cu2+ and an adsorption capacity of 22.8 and 20.4 mg/g at 2,000 mg/L of Cu2+ solution for both bentonites. The SEM and FTIR analyses showed changes in surface morphology and chemical composition, while the isotherm study revealed that the Freundlich model closely fit the data. Furthermore, hydraulic conductivity increased with copper concentration, indicating that bentonite with higher CEC, swelling volume, and SSA had better adsorption capacity and removal efficiency.
