On the origin of matter in the Universe

Pasquale Di Bari

Summary: Understanding the physical processes behind the origin of matter in the early Universe is one of the most fascinating challenges in modern science, with proposed solutions including modifying the standard model of particle physics or the description of gravity. Recent interest has grown in scenarios that aim to provide a unified picture of the origin of matter, with a focus on models that may be experimentally tested in the near future. Extensions of the standard model, which can also address neutrino masses and mixing, are seen as potential solutions to the problem of the origin of matter in the universe.

Dirac neutrino mass models with a modular S4 symmetry

Xin Wang

Summary: In this paper, the lepton mass spectra, flavor mixing, and CP violation were investigated under the assumption of neutrinos being Dirac fermions with a modular S-4 symmetry. It was found that the Majorana mass term can be forbidden by adjusting the weight of the right-handed neutrino superfields. Twelve different classes of models were obtained, with ten of them able to accommodate current neutrino oscillation data.

Automorphic forms and fermion masses

Gui-Jun Ding et al.

Summary: This study extends the framework of modular invariant supersymmetric theories to encompass more general discrete groups Γ, involving multiple moduli and connection with the theory of automorphic forms. By constructing a minimal Kahler potential and a general superpotential, the theory can be applied to rigid and local N = 1 supersymmetric theories. Specializing the construction to the case G = Sp(2g, ), K = U(g) and Gamma = Sp(2g, Z), the study shows how the theory can be consistently restricted to multi-dimensional regions of the moduli space with residual symmetries.

Spontaneous CP violation and symplectic modular symmetry in Calabi-Yau compactifications

Keiya Ishiguro et al.

Summary: This study explores the geometrical origin of CP symmetry and spontaneous CP violation in Calabi-Yau compactifications. The CP symmetry is identified with an outer automorphism of the symplectic modular group in the large complex structure regime of Calabi-Yau threefolds. Spontaneous CP violation is realized by the introduction of fluxes, whose effective action is invariant under CP as well as discrete Z(2) symmetry or Z(4) R-symmetry.

Aspects of high scale leptogenesis with low-energy leptonic CP violation

A. Granelli et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the high scale leptogenesis with CP violation provided by the neutrino mixing matrix, investigating the transitions between different flavour regimes of baryon asymmetry generation in the Universe using Boltzmann equations. Particularly, it examines the behavior of eta(B) during the 1-to-2 flavour transition and determines the minimal scale and conditions for successful leptogenesis. The findings suggest that the considered scenarios are testable and falsifiable in low-energy neutrino experiments.

Siegel modular flavor group and CP from string theory

Alexander Baur et al.

Summary: By studying heterotic string theory, we have identified the potential modular symmetries in the case of toroidal compactification with Wilson line modulus. In this scenario, the Siegel modular group Sp(4, Z) encompasses the modular symmetries SL(2, Z)(T) and SL(2, Z)(U) of the geometric moduli T and U, as well as mirror symmetry. Additionally, string theory offers a candidate for a CP-like symmetry that enhances the Siegel modular group to GSp(4, Z).

Metaplectic flavor symmetries from magnetized tori

Yahya Almumin et al.

Summary: In this study, flavor symmetries arising from compactifications on tori with magnetic background fluxes are revisited. Closed form analytic expressions for Yukawa couplings valid for arbitrary flux parameters are derived using Euler's Theorem. The modular transformations for even and odd units of magnetic flux are discussed, leading to finite metaplectic groups, the order of which is determined by the least common multiple of the number of zero-mode flavors involved. This approach allows for better parameter control and increased predictiveness compared to postulated modular flavor symmetries in models.

CP symmetry and symplectic modular invariance

Gui-Jun Ding et al.

Summary: In this study, CP symmetry in symplectic modular-invariant supersymmetric theories is analyzed. The uniqueness of CP definition for genus g >= 3 is shown, while two independent possibilities are allowed when g <= 2. The transformation properties of moduli, matter multiplets, and modular forms in the Siegel upper half plane are discussed, as well as in invariant subspaces. Finally, a CP and symplectic invariant model of lepton masses and mixing angles is built, where known data are well reproduced and observable phases are predicted in terms of a minimum number of parameters.

Modular invariant dynamics and fermion mass hierarchies around τ = i

Ferruccio Feruglio et al.

Summary: In modular invariant flavour models, the breaking of residual Z(4) invariance near the self-dual point tau = i can be described by correcting epsilon, which changes sign under Z(4). Although the Z(4) symmetry at tau = i may lead to degeneracies or vanishing eigenvalues of fermion mass matrices, this can be eliminated by deviating slightly from the self-dual point. The relevant mass ratios are controlled by powers of the absolute value of epsilon.
