Estimating the local dark matter density in a non-axisymmetric wobbling disc

S. Sivertsson et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the factors affecting the determination of the density of dark matter near the Sun (rho(DM, circle dot)), and finds that common approximations such as axisymmetry and a flat rotation curve can lead to significant systematic errors. However, including the tilt term and the rotation curve term in the analysis can provide an unbiased estimate of rho(DM, circle dot).

Chiral models of composite axions and accidental Peccei-Quinn symmetry

Roberto Contino et al.

Summary: We introduce a class of composite axion models that can naturally solve the strong CP problem and possibly explain the abundance of dark matter. The mass scales are dynamically generated through the breaking of the Peccei-Quinn symmetry, and additional pseudo Nambu-Goldstone bosons predicted by GUT models could have observable effects on cosmological evolution. The analysis also includes the discussion of discrete symmetries in composite axion models.

Flavor probes of axion-like particles

Martin Bauer et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the phenomenology of ALPs with flavor-changing couplings, including rare meson decays, flavor oscillations of neutral mesons, rare lepton decays, and dipole moments. The study finds that searches for ALPs produced in meson decays provide some of the strongest constraints in the MeV-GeV mass range, and discusses the possibility of ALPs explaining various experimental anomalies.

Anomaly-free ALP from non-Abelian flavor symmetry

C. Han et al.

Summary: Motivated by the XENON1T excess in electron-recoil measurements, this study investigates the prospects of probing axion-like particles (ALP) in lepton flavor violation experiments. By presenting two realistic examples, it is shown that ALP consistent with the XENON1T anomaly can be probed by the proposed LFV experiments.

Improved constraints on cosmic birefringence from the WMAP and Planck cosmic microwave background polarization data

Johannes R. Eskilt et al.

Summary: In this study, new measurements of cosmic birefringence are presented from a joint analysis of polarization data from the Planck and WMAP space missions. The results show that the plane of linear polarization of cosmic microwave background photons may have rotated during their 13 billion-year journey, with no evidence of frequency dependence. This finding has significant implications for the study of physics violating parity symmetry.

Axion Mass from Magnetic Monopole Loops

JiJi Fan et al.

Summary: The research shows that axions interacting with Abelian gauge fields acquire potential energy from magnetic monopoles. This axion potential can be understood as related to both instanton effects and Witten effect. It is also discussed how this potential is important in determining dark matter relic abundance in specific scenarios.

An even lighter QCD axion

Luca Di Luzio et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the possibility of a lighter axion as a solution to the strong CP problem compared to the canonical QCD axion, using the ZN symmetry proposed by Hook. The total potential is approximated by a single cosine in the large N limit, leading to an exponentially suppressed axion mass formula. The enhanced axion interactions relative to the canonical QCD axion have significant implications for experiments searching for axion-like particles and solving the strong CP problem.
