The spectrum of boundary states in symmetric orbifolds

Alexandre Belin et al.

Summary: This article provides an explicit construction of the complete set of Cardy boundary states for symmetric product orbifolds that respect the extended chiral algebra. The states are labeled based on a choice of seed theory boundary states and representations of the symmetric group. The BCFT data relevant for holography, such as boundary entropy and one-point functions of single-trace operators, is analyzed in the large N limit. In some cases, typical boundary states are compatible with a bulk description involving an End-of-the-World brane along with backreacted matter fields. The significance of these results for the AdS/BCFT correspondence is discussed.

Weyl anomalies of four dimensional conformal boundaries and defects

Adam Chalabi et al.

Summary: Motivated by quantum information and classification of quantum field theories, this study examines Conformal Field Theories (CFTs) in spacetime dimension d >= 5 with conformally-invariant spatial boundaries (BCFTs) or 4-dimensional conformal defects (DCFTs). The boundary or defect contributions to the Weyl anomaly are determined using a standard algorithm, and the central charges characterizing the BCFTs or DCFTs are calculated. In addition, several parity-even and parity-odd terms are discovered, and the impact of the parity-even central charges on physical observables are demonstrated.

Holographic local operator quenches in BCFTs

Taishi Kawamoto et al.

Summary: We present a gravity dual model for local operator quench in a two-dimensional CFT with conformal boundaries. The model consists of a massive excitation in a three-dimensional AdS space and an end of the world brane, which undergoes nontrivial deformations due to gravitational backreaction. We show that the energy-momentum tensor and entanglement entropy computed from the gravity dual and from the BCFT in the large c limit perfectly match, elegantly avoiding the folding of the end of the world brane.

Mapping out the internal space in AdS/BCFT with Wilson loops

Lorenzo Coccia et al.

Summary: We study Wilson loops in string theory realizations of AdS/BCFT and wedge holography. The holographic representation of antisymmetric Wilson loops associated with individual 3d gauge nodes in terms of probe D5-branes is identified. This identification provides a concrete notion of which parts of the 10d solutions correspond to the end-of-the-world brane and which to the remaining bulk. Supersymmetric Janus on the brane embeddings in AdS(5)xS(5), describing surface defects with boundaries and interfaces in N = 4 SYM, are also constructed.

Entanglement phase structure of a holographic BCFT in a black hole background

Hao Geng et al.

Summary: In this study, we compute holographic entanglement entropy for subregions of a BCFT thermal state living on a nongravitating black hole background. We find that entanglement islands do not exist when the brane lies below a critical angle at zero temperature, but they do exist at finite temperature in the context of a black string, restricted to a finite connected region on the brane called the atoll. The behavior of entanglement entropy depends on two parameters - the size of the subregion and the brane angle.

Causal structures and nonlocality in double holography

Hidetoshi Omiya et al.

Summary: This paper studies causal structures in generic double holographic setups and finds that the causal structure in the bulk picture is compatible with causality in the BCFT picture. However, consistency with the bulk causal structure requires the effective theory in the intermediate picture to contain a special type of super-luminal and nonlocal effect. The results of this study are important for understanding the subregion correspondences in double holography and the fundamental origins of nonlocality.

BCFT and Islands in two dimensions

Kenta Suzuki et al.

Summary: In this paper, we investigate the equivalence between a boundary conformal field theory (BCFT) and a gravitational system by studying its duality relation in a two-dimensional setup. By examining the computation of entanglement entropy and energy flux conservation, we identify the dual two-dimensional gravity to the boundary dynamics of a BCFT. Furthermore, we demonstrate that one point functions can be correctly reproduced in the AdS/BCFT by considering a gravity solution with scalar fields turned on.

We derive the one point function of stress tensor and find positive central charge for couplings obeying causality constraints. We also study AdS/BCFT for general curvature-squared gravity and propose a new boundary condition for the massive graviton, resulting in non-trivial shape dependence of stress tensor and well-defined central charges. Finally, we discuss the island and show the recovery of Page curve for Gauss-Bonnet gravity.

On the dynamics in the AdS/BCFT correspondence

Yu-ki Suzuki et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate a perturbation of the Einstein gravity with the Neumann boundary condition, which is considered as an end of the world brane (ETW brane) in the AdS(d+1) spacetime. We explicitly obtain the mode expansion of the perturbations for the tensionless ETW brane case. Furthermore, we analyze the constraints that the energy-momentum tensor in a d-dimensional BCFT should satisfy if it can couple to a d-dimensional gravity with a specific boundary condition, such as the Neumann or conformally Dirichlet boundary conditions. We find that these constraints are satisfied for the free scalar BCFT and the BCFT in the AdS/BCFT can couple to the gravity with the Neumann or conformally Dirichlet boundary condition.

Page curve under final state projection

Ibrahim Akal et al.

Summary: The black hole singularity is crucial for understanding Hawking's information paradox. By imposing a final state boundary condition on the spacelike singularity, the conflict between global spacetime analysis and unitarity can potentially be resolved. Inspired by the final state proposal, this study explores the impact of final state projection in two dimensional conformal field theories. The researchers calculate the time evolution under postselection and use the real part of pseudoentropy to estimate the average amount of quantum entanglement between the initial and final states. The results show a Page-curve-like behavior for this quantity.

Entanglement Entropy in a Holographic Moving Mirror and the Page Curve

Ibrahim Akal et al.

Summary: In this study, the time evolution of entanglement entropy in a two-dimensional conformal field theory with a moving mirror was calculated using holography. It was found that in a setup modeling Hawking radiation, entanglement entropy exhibits linear growth, which can be interpreted as the production of entangled pairs, while in a setup mimicking black hole formation and evaporation, the evolution follows the ideal Page curve. The gravity dual of the moving mirror model constructed via holography provides a concrete model to derive the Page curve for black hole radiation in the strong coupling regime of gravity.

Bra-ket wormholes in gravitationally prepared states

Summary: This text discusses two-dimensional CFT states produced by gravitational path integrals, focusing on cases of Euclidean AdS(2) evolution and Lorentzian dS(2) evolution followed by flat space evolution. It is found that naive hyperbolic space geometry leads to paradoxes, which can be resolved by incorporating bra-ket wormholes. Despite issues with divergent temperatures, projection onto low energy states reveals similarities with the previous Euclidean case, suggesting a connection between maximum entropy and de Sitter entropy.

Through fully backreacted solutions for configurations of D3, D5 and NS5 branes, along with their dual descriptions as N = 4 SYM and 3d T-rho(sigma)[SU(N)] SCFTs, island contributions to the entanglement entropy of black hole radiation systems have been identified, leading to Page curves. Analogous to the critical angles found in the Karch/Randall models, critical parameters in the brane configurations and dual field theories are identified in the 10-dimensional context.
