Thiamine and Piriformospora indica induce bean resistance against Rhizoctonia solani: The role of polyamines in association with iron and reactive oxygen species

Fatemeh Kheyri et al.

Summary: This study investigated the protective effects of thiamine and Piriformospora indica against the pathogenic fungus Rhizoctonia solani AG-4 HGII. It was found that thiamine and P. indica reduced disease progress by inducing biochemical and metabolic changes in bean plants. The formation of PAs may decrease disease progress by reducing the accumulation of H2O2.

Reticine A, a new potent natural elicitor: isolation from the fruit peel ofCitrus reticulateand induction of systemic resistance against tobacco mosaic virus and other plant fungal diseases

Delong Wang et al.

Summary: The study identified a potent elicitor reticine A from citrus fruit peel extract that demonstrated significant control efficacy against tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) and induced systemic acquired resistance (SAR). The mechanism was attributed to activating the expression of several defensive genes mediated by a salicylic acid signal, highlighting the potential of reticine A for further optimization and use in pest management.

Inter-Genera Colonization of Ocimum tenuiflorum Endophytes in Tomato and Their Complementary Effects on Na+/K+ Balance, Oxidative Stress Regulation, and Root Architecture Under Elevated Soil Salinity

Pramod K. Sahu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the colonization of endophytic bacilli from O. tenuiflorum in tomato plants and showed their potential in maintaining Na+/K+ balance, reducing ROS, and improving root architecture under elevated salinity. Inoculated endophytes contributed to alleviating salt stress and improving plant growth through various mechanisms such as modulation of antioxidant enzyme system and expression of stress-responsive genes. The inter-genera colonization and complementary effects of the four endophytes highlight the possibility of utilizing a consortium for salt stress alleviation in agricultural practices.

Endophytic fungus Acrophialophora jodhpurensis induced resistance against tomato early blight via interplay of reactive oxygen species, iron and antioxidants

Zoha Daroodi et al.

Summary: The endophytic fungus Acrophialophora jodhpurensis shows potential in inducing resistance in tomatoes against Alternaria alternata. The colonization of tomato roots by A. jodhpurensis reduces disease progress caused by A. alternata on the leaves. Additionally, various defense mechanisms are activated in the plants inoculated with A. jodhpurensis, suggesting its potential as a candidate for plant protection against A. alternata.
