Functional Characterization of BrF3'H, Which Determines the Typical Flavonoid Profile of Purple Chinese Cabbage

Sangkyu Park et al.

Summary: The purple leaf variety of Chinese cabbage accumulates higher levels of flavonoids, particularly 3'-dihydroxylated ones, compared to the green leaf variety. Most early and late flavonoid biosynthetic genes are highly expressed in the purple leaf variety, while expression patterns of phenylpropanoid pathway genes do not correspond to flavonoid accumulation patterns. The flavanone 3'-hydroxylase BrF3'H plays a key role in catalyzing flavonoid hydroxylation in the purple leaf variety.

Functional Analyses of Flavonol Synthase Genes From Camellia sinensis Reveal Their Roles in Anther Development

Yufeng Shi et al.

Summary: Flavonoids, including flavonol derivatives, are the main astringent compounds of tea and are beneficial to human health. Research on phenolic compounds in tea plants has been conducted comprehensively, but the biological function of tea flavonoids in floral organs remains unclear. This study identified metabolic characteristics of phenolic compounds in tea flowers and revealed that CsFLSb may regulate flavonol biosynthesis in tea flowers, influencing fertility.

Elucidation of the Regulatory Network of Flavonoid Biosynthesis by Profiling the Metabolome and Transcriptome in Tartary Buckwheat

Siyu Hou et al.

Summary: By investigating the flavonoid metabolism in different TB tissues, the pathway of flavonoid synthesis and the related gene regulation network were revealed. The DEGs were mainly enriched in the Phenylpropanoid biosynthesis pathway, with 52 DEGs involved in flavonol synthesis pathway. Weighted gene correlation network analysis unveiled four co-expression network modules correlated with flavonol metabolites.

Anthocyanin synthesis potential in betalain-producing Caryophyllales plants

Masaaki Sakuta et al.

Summary: This study revealed that the lack of anthocyanins in betalain-producing Caryophyllales plants is due to the loss of function in MYB transcription factors, suppressing the expression of genes involved in the late stage of anthocyanin synthesis.

Summary: The study demonstrates the successful application of CRISPR/Cas9 in knocking out the F3 ' H gene in red poinsettia plants, resulting in a color change from red to reddish orange in the bracts of the transgenic plants. This alteration is accompanied by an increased ratio of pelargonidin to cyanidin in the genetically modified plants.
