Novel Mutant Alleles Reveal a Role of the Extra-Large G Protein in Rice Grain Filling, Panicle Architecture, Plant Growth, and Disease Resistance

Akshaya K. Biswal et al.

Summary: In this study, the non-canonical XLG proteins were found to play important roles in regulating rice plant growth, grain filling, panicle phenotype, stress tolerance, and disease resistance. The results suggest that genetic manipulation of XLGs has the potential to improve agronomic properties in rice.

SlDREB3, a negative regulator of ABA responses, controls seed germination, fruit size and the onset of ripening in tomato

Asmita Gupta et al.

Summary: SlDREB3 is an important gene involved in the regulation of ripening and ABA responses in tomato. It acts as a negative regulator by modulating ABA levels and signaling. SlDREB3 affects various aspects of ripening, including seed germination, fruit size, and expression of ripening pathway genes. This research provides insights into the regulatory mechanisms of tomato ripening and the role of ABA.

A Cytokinin Analog Thidiazuron Suppresses Shoot Growth in Potted Rose Plants via the Gibberellic Acid Pathway

Fisun G. Celikel et al.

Summary: Application of thidiazuron on potted rose plants effectively inhibits leaf yellowing, resulting in compact plants with shorter shoots and thicker internodes. Thidiazuron likely modulates cell architecture and suppresses the expression of gibberellic acid biosynthesis genes, leading to altered plant growth responses. Ethylene production by plants is stimulated by thidiazuron, but inhibitors of ethylene biosynthesis or action do not affect the plant's response to thidiazuron.

ATBS1-INTERACTING FACTOR 2 Negatively Modulates Pollen Production and Seed Formation in Arabidopsis

Yoon Kim et al.

Summary: AIF2 functions as a negative regulator in pollen development and seed formation through modulating brassinosteroid-induced processes in Arabidopsis. Overexpression of AIF2 results in defective pollen grains and seed production, while knockout mutants show opposite phenotypes. Repression of AIF2 by sucrose and brassinosteroid positively promotes pollen production and seed formation.

Plant growth regulators to increase fruit set and yield of 'Rocha' pear trees in Southern Brazil

Bruno Carra et al.

Summary: In this study, the effects of different rates and timings of AVG, TDZ, and P-Ca on fruit set, yield, and fruit quality of 'Rocha' pear trees were evaluated. AVG consistently increased fruit set and yield, while P-Ca had no significant effect on fruit set and TDZ significantly decreased fruit set. However, P-Ca at 100 mg/L sprayed at full bloom + 7 days after full bloom and TDZ at 10 mg/L at full bloom positively affected yield. Fruit size was consistently increased by TDZ treatment.
