Protective role of exogenously supplied salicylic acid and PGPB (Stenotrophomonas sp.) on spinach and soybean cultivars grown under salt stress

Bhavna Nigam et al.

Summary: Managing sustainable crop production under escalating soil salinity is a major challenge in the coming years. Exogenous application of protectants can ameliorate the adverse effects of salinity on plant growth. This study evaluated the potential role of salicylic acid (SA) and PGPB (Stenotrophomonas sp.) on spinach and soybean cultivars grown under two different salt concentrations. The results showed that 100 ppm salt had more severe effects than 50 ppm salt on the crops and cultivars. Exogenous protectants improved plant growth and yield, as well as osmotic adjustment and antioxidant activity under salt stress. Overall, PGPB was found to be a more effective protectant than SA in reducing salt-induced yield loss.

Physiological response of mango transplants to phytohormones under salinity stress

Moustafa A. A. Haider et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that the exogenous application of phytohormones can improve the nutrient content and reduce sodium accumulation in mango cultivars under saline irrigation conditions. Different cultivars responded differently to phytohormone treatments, with IAA showing the most positive effects overall.

Alleviation of salinity stress effects on agro-physiological traits of wheat by auxin, glycine betaine, and soil additives

Rania A. Khedr et al.

Summary: The study found that adding Molasses or Humic acid in saline soils can improve the physiological and biochemical characteristics of wheat, leading to increased yield and enhanced tolerance to salinity stress. Foliar spray of Naphthalene acetic acid and Glycine betaine also positively affected wheat yield and growth characteristics.

Effect of Jasmonic Acid Foliar Spray on the Morpho-Physiological Mechanism of Salt Stress Tolerance in Two Soybean Varieties (Glycine max L.)

Javaria Noor et al.

Summary: Exogenous jasmonates (JAs) treatment alters the growth and metabolism of soybeans under salt stress. The application of exogenous JA increases the photosynthetic pigments and levels of certain metabolites in soybeans under low salt concentrations, while decreasing carbohydrate levels. Additionally, exogenous JA treatment alleviates the negative impact of salt stress on the soybeans.

Global predictions of primary soil salinization under changing climate in the 21st century

Amirhossein Hassani et al.

Summary: Excess salt accumulation in the root zone causes soil salinization, which affects soil health, biodiversity, and food security. The authors used machine learning algorithms to predict global soil salinization under changing climate in the 21st century, identifying hotspots in drylands such as South America, southern and western Australia, Mexico, southwest United States, and South Africa. Conversely, they project a decrease in soil salinity in northwest United States, the Horn of Africa, Eastern Europe, Turkmenistan, and west Kazakhstan in response to climate change.
