Growth Repressor GmRAV Binds to the GmGA3ox Promoter to Negatively Regulate Plant Height Development in Soybean

Yongguo Xue et al.

Summary: Plant height is an important aspect of plant structure. This study demonstrates that the soybean GmRAV transcription factor can directly regulate the expression of the GmGA3ox gene, thus influencing soybean plant height.

NARROW AND DWARF LEAF 1, the Ortholog of Arabidopsis ENHANCER OF SHOOT REGENERATION1/DORNRoSCHEN, Mediates Leaf Development and Maintenance of the Shoot Apical Meristem in Oryza sativa L

Andree S. Kusnandar et al.

Summary: NDL1 is a crucial transcription factor in rice that regulates leaf development and shoot apical meristem maintenance. Loss of NDL1 function results in abnormal leaves and shoot apical meristems, as well as reduced auxin signaling. The study reveals the molecular basis for leaf development in rice.

BSA-seq and genetic mapping reveals AhRt2 as a candidate gene responsible for red testa of peanut

Kun Zhang et al.

Summary: The candidate recessive gene AhRt2 responsible for red testa color in peanuts was identified through BSA-seq and linkage mapping approaches. This study provides valuable insight into the molecular mechanisms underlying peanut testa color and offers significant resources for marker-assisted selective breeding.

Mapping of CaPP2C35 involved in the formation of light-green immature pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) fruits via GWAS and BSA

Lang Wu et al.

Summary: Genome-wide association study, bulked segregant analysis, and genetic analysis identified the LG locus controlling light-green immature pepper fruits to a specific region on chromosome 10, suggesting CaPP2C35 as a strong candidate gene. The findings suggest that the target gene may be involved in the formation of light-green immature fruits by regulating the accumulation of chlorophyll content in the exocarp.

The barley mutant multiflorus2.b reveals quantitative genetic variation for new spikelet architecture

Ravi Koppolu et al.

Summary: The spikelet indeterminacy and supernumerary spikelet phenotypes in the barley multiflorus2.b mutant exhibit polygenic inheritance. Major QTLs for these phenotypes were identified on chromosomes 2H and 6H. The co-location of QTLs for lateral spikelet indeterminacy and central spikelet supernumerary phenotypes suggests a potential regulation by a single genetic factor. Further research into the genes underlying these QTLs will contribute to understanding yield formation in small grain cereals.

Fine-mapping and gene candidate analysis for AhRt1, a major dominant locus responsible for testa color in cultivated peanut

Hao Chen et al.

Summary: The AhRt1 gene controlling red testa color in peanut was fine-mapped to a 580 kb interval on chromosome A03, with a bHLH transcriptional factor identified as the candidate gene. Peanut with red testa is of higher nutritional and economic value, and identifying genes controlling this color will help accelerate breeding programs. Development of a diagnostic marker linked to the candidate gene will aid in validating fine-mapping results and benefit the breeding program for new varieties with red testa color.

Genetic Divergence and Population Structure in Weedy and Cultivated Broomcorn Millets (Panicum miliaceum L.) Revealed by Specific-Locus Amplified Fragment Sequencing (SLAF-Seq)

Chunxiang Li et al.

Summary: Broomcorn millet is one of the earliest domesticated crops in the world, with weedy broomcorn millet thought to be the descendant of the wild ancestor or feral type. Genetic diversity and population structure of weedy and cultivated broomcorn millets were investigated using high-throughput sequencing technology, revealing both wild and feral genotypes in weedy broomcorn millets and the genetic divergence between broomcorn millets from different regions.

Development of diagnostic markers for a wheat leaf rust resistance gene Lr42 using RNA-sequencing

Yang Liu et al.

Summary: The study identified diagnostic DNA markers for Lr42 by utilizing sequence polymorphisms of a differentially expressed gene TaRPM1. These markers show superior selection accuracy compared to previously used markers, with the advantages of low cost and easy assay, suitable for marker-assisted selection in breeding programs.
