Allelic shift in cis-elements of the transcription factor RAP2.12 underlies adaptation associated with humidity in Arabidopsis thaliana

Shangling Lou et al.

Summary: A study found that allelic changes in the cis-regulatory elements WT box and W box in the promoter of a key transcription factor RAP2.12 in Arabidopsis thaliana are responsible for differentially regulating tolerance to drought and flooding. These two cis-elements are regulated by different transcription factors, resulting in differential accumulation of hypoxia-responsive transcripts. This gene promotes both drought and flooding adaptation through an adaptive mechanism that diversifies its regulation through noncoding alleles.

Genome-wide identification and expression analysis of calmodulin and calmodulin-like genes in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

Yongwei Liu et al.

Summary: Calmodulin (CaM) and calmodulin-like (CML) genes play important roles in plant growth and stress response. In wheat, 18 TaCaM and 230 TaCML genes were identified, classified into 7 subfamilies. These genes are located on all 21 chromosomes, with most gene clusters containing 3 homoeologous genes. TaCaM/TaCML genes show tissue-specific expression patterns, with some genes being up-regulated by abiotic stresses in roots or shoots.

Characteristics of SlCML39, a Tomato Calmodulin-like Gene, and Its Negative Role in High Temperature Tolerance of Arabidopsis thaliana during Germination and Seedling Growth

Haidong Ding et al.

Summary: SlCML39 is a tomato CML protein induced significantly under high temperature conditions, encoding a protein with four EF hand motifs. It is mainly expressed in root, stem, and leaf, and regulated by high temperature, drought, salt stress, as well as ABA and H2O2. Overexpression of SlCML39 in Arabidopsis reduces its tolerance to high temperature. Through RNA-Seq analysis, it was found that many stress response genes and ABA signal pathway genes are down-regulated in transgenic seedlings under high temperature stress, indicating that SlCML39 acts as a negative regulator in response to high temperature stress.

Identification and characterization of HAK/KUP/KT potassium transporter gene family in barley and their expression under abiotic stress

Kangfeng Cai et al.

Summary: This study identified 27 HAK genes (HvHAKs) in barley, which exhibit differences in tissue expression patterns and responses to salt stress, drought stress, and potassium deficiency. Wheat has the most orthologous genes to barley HAKs, followed by Brachypodium distachyon, rice, and maize. Additionally, the HvHAK genes showed up-regulated expression levels under salt, hyperosmotic, and potassium deficiency treatments.
