Non-targeted and targeted metabolomics profiling of tea plants (Camellia sinensis) in response to its intercropping with Chinese chestnut

Tian Wu et al.

Summary: Intercropping of Chinese chestnut and tea plants can significantly enhance the quality of tea leaves, as shown by metabolomics analysis. The altered metabolites, especially in amino acid metabolism, play a crucial role in improving the taste and health benefits of tea leaves in the intercropping system. This study highlights the potential for improving tea quality through metabolic pathways by adopting intercropping systems.

The effects of tea plants-soybean intercropping on the secondary metabolites of tea plants by metabolomics analysis

Yu Duan et al.

Summary: The study found that there were significant changes in the metabolic of secondary metabolites in tea plants when intercropped with soybean, especially during the profuse flowering stage of soybean. Through the intercropping system, tea plants showed higher chlorophyll photosynthetic parameters and photosynthetic activity. These results provide a basis for reducing the application of nitrogen fertilizer and improving the ecosystem in tea plantations.

Comparative transcriptome analysis infers bulb derived in vitro cultures as a promising source for sipeimine biosynthesis in Fritillaria cirrhosa D. Don (Liliaceae, syn. Fritillaria roylei Hook.) - High value Himalayan medicinal herb

Pankaj Kumar et al.

Summary: The critically endangered medicinal herb Fritillaria cirrhosa D. Don is an important source of sipeimine, a bioactive compound used in treating chronic respiratory disorders. By utilizing plant cell culture and transcriptomics, key regulatory genes for sipeimine biosynthesis were identified, shedding light on unexplored traits. Molecular studies suggest that the MVA pathway is likely the predominant route for 5C intermediate biosynthesis, with certain genes showing a positive correlation with sipeimine accumulation in different tissues.

Diverse Intercropping Patterns Enhance the Productivity and Volatile Oil Yield of Atractylodes lancea (Thunb.) DC.

Zheng Peng et al.

Summary: Commercial cultivation of the medicinal plant Atractylodes lancea is significantly restricted by low survival rates and reduced yields. However, intercropping with crops like maize, calendula, and marigold can effectively increase survival rates and yields, as well as improve volatile oil content in A. lancea. Intercropping is identified as an effective method to enhance the cultivation of A. lancea and increase volatile oil harvest.

Metabolomic and transcriptomic profiling reveals distinct nutritional properties of cassavas with different flesh colors

Liang Xiao et al.

Summary: Cassava is an important food security crop with diverse metabolites in its roots. Three different cassava cultivars were found to have varying contents of primary and secondary metabolites, with white-flesh cassava rich in primary metabolites, light-yellow-flesh cassava rich in secondary metabolites, and yellow-flesh cassava containing higher amino acid levels. Transcriptome analyses revealed potential mechanisms regulating the accumulation of these metabolites at the transcriptional level.
