The Local and Systemic Humoral Immune Response Against Homologous and Heterologous Strains of the Type 2 Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus

Andrew R. Kick et al.

Summary: The humoral immune response plays a crucial role in combating and protecting against the pig pathogen PRRSV. This study found that different PRRSV-2 strains can induce varying levels of immune responses in the host, and established a timeline for the development of these responses.

Commercial PRRS Modified-Live Virus Vaccines

Chanhee Chae

Summary: PRRSV is a challenging viral pathogen in the global pork industry, with MLV vaccines being the principal strategy for control. The efficacy of the vaccines is often unpredictable and depends heavily on the field virus.

Maternal Autogenous Inactivated Virus Vaccination Boosts Immunity to PRRSV in Piglets

Andrew R. Kick et al.

Summary: Maternal-derived immunity is crucial for the survival of piglets, with maternal AIV vaccination improving protection against PRRSV-2. The transfer of neutralizing antibodies to piglets is important, and this study introduces two novel immune cell subsets in pigs.

Challenge of Naive and Vaccinated Pigs with a Vaccine-Derived Recombinant Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus 1 Strain (Horsens Strain)

Lise K. Kvisgaard et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the pathogenicity of a vaccine-derived recombinant Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus 1 strain (Horsens strain) in SPF pigs and compared it with a reference strain. The findings indicated that all vaccinated groups had lower viral loads in serum compared to the unvaccinated group challenged with the Horsens strain. The recombinant Horsens strain showed infection capabilities comparable to or exceeding typical PRRSV-1 strains but with less virulence.
