Genomic Characterization of mcr-1-Carrying Foodborne Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium and Identification of a Transferable Plasmid Carrying mcr-1, blaCTX-M-14, qnrS2, and oqxAB Genes From Ready-to-Eat Pork Product in China

Lili Li et al.

Summary: This study characterized Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium isolates carrying the mcr-1 gene from raw pork and ready-to-eat pork products in Guangzhou, China. The isolates were found to be multi-drug resistant and contained multiple antibiotic-resistant genes. A new plasmid carrying multiple resistance genes was also identified in a ready-to-eat pork product isolate. The results suggest that raw pork and pork products may serve as potential reservoirs of colistin-resistant S. typhimurium and highlight the need for continuous monitoring of resistance strains from different sources.

Resistance and Pathogenicity of Salmonella Thompson Isolated from Incubation End of a Poultry Farm

Jingju Zhang et al.

Summary: This study found that clinical Thompson strain of Salmonella is pathogenic to poultry embryos and carries the polymyxin resistance gene mcr-9 and other important virulence genes. The results suggest that Salmonella Thompson can circulate between humans and poultry and exhibit high pathogenicity to chicks, emphasizing the need for vigilance.

Occurrence of Salmonella in the Cattle Production in France

Laetitia Bonifait et al.

Summary: Salmonella is a common foodborne pathogen worldwide that can lead to acute gastroenteritis, with cattle production being recognized as an important source of human infection. A study conducted in French cattle production found a prevalence of 3% for Salmonella in intestinal samples, with Montevideo being the most prevalent serotype. Genotyping methods helped identify clusters of isolates and potential epidemiological links between different areas and animal breeds. This investigation provides new insights into Salmonella serotype epidemiology in French cattle production.

Genomic Investigation of Antimicrobial-Resistant Salmonella enterica Isolates From Dead Chick Embryos in China

Mohammed Elbediwi et al.

Summary: This study revealed the presence of antimicrobial-resistant S. enterica in breeding chicken hatcheries in Henan province, with S. Enteritidis being the most common serovar and carrying more virulence factors. There is a strong correlation between different antimicrobial-resistant genes, and the type of plasmids also has an impact on resistance.
