Ebola Virus GP Activates Endothelial Cells via Host Cytoskeletal Signaling Factors

Benedicte Mpia Moni et al.

Summary: This study reveals that Ebola-like particles (VLPs) formed by GP, VP40, and NP activate endothelial cells (ECs) via GP, leading to apoptotic ECs disruption and dysfunction. Compared to TNF-alpha, VLPs induce overexpression of ICAM-1 at later time points. Additionally, focal adhesion kinase inhibitors were found to be potent inhibitors of TNF-alpha and VLPs-mediated ICAM-1 expression.

Filovirus VP24 Proteins Differentially Regulate RIG-I and MDA5-Dependent Type I and III Interferon Promoter Activation

Felix B. He et al.

Summary: Filovirus family is a highly pathogenic virus family that has caused deadly outbreaks, especially in African countries. Previous research has focused on Ebola, Sudan, and Marburg viruses, leaving other filoviruses less studied. These viruses have the ability to downregulate the innate immune system, and VP24 proteins have been shown to interfere with interferon gene expression and signaling.

Epidemiology, virology and clinical aspects of hantavirus infections: an overview

Sima Singh et al.

Summary: The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019 and 2020 has led to a new era of communicable infectious diseases, with the emergence of Hantavirus infection posing a new public health emergency. Hantavirus, a zoonotic pathogen, causes two major clinical manifestations - HFRS and HCPS. Despite the lack of effective treatments or vaccines, public awareness and precautionary measures can help reduce the spread of the virus.

The kidney in hantavirus infection-epidemiology, virology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis and management

Felix C. Koehler et al.

Summary: Hantavirus-induced diseases, such as hemorrhagic fever and cardiopulmonary syndrome, have been frequently reported in different parts of the world. They primarily affect the endothelial cell barrier and immune response, with disease severity associated with genetic vulnerability. Currently, there are no specific treatments, and preventive measures and public awareness are crucial in reducing the risk of infection.

Edith Wagner et al.

Summary: In this study, a comprehensive investigation was carried out on the spread of OHFV in Kazakhstan, and it was found that this virus can not only be found in Western Siberia in Russia, but also in patients and natural foci up to 1,600 km away in the Almaty region in Kazakhstan.

Pathogenicity and virulence of Marburg virus

Mehedy Hasan Abir et al.

Summary: Marburg virus (MARV) is a highly concerning virus that causes severe hemorrhagic fever with a high fatality rate. Fruit bats and human-to-human transmission play major roles in the outbreaks of MARV. Due to the rarity of large outbreaks, clinical investigations are often inadequate for determining the treatment of MARV. Therefore, a comprehensive review is important for future medical research and clinical management of this deadly virus.

A highly attenuated Vesiculovax vaccine rapidly protects nonhuman primates against lethal Marburg virus challenge

Courtney Woolsey et al.

Summary: This study tested a vaccine based on rVSV to prevent Marburg virus infection. The results showed that the vaccine provided full protection when administered 7 days before the challenge and partial protection when administered 5 days before the challenge. However, no effective protection was observed when administered 3 days before the challenge. These findings highlight the importance of rVSV vaccines in managing Marburg virus outbreaks.
