Dynamic splitting behaviour of ultra-high-performance concrete confined with carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer

Liang Huang et al.

Summary: Fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) wrapping is effective in enhancing the compressive properties of concrete, but its dynamic splitting performance on ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) has not been explored. This study investigates the impact resistance of carbon FRP (CFRP)-confined UHPC under splitting loads and finds that CFRP confinement reduces the strain-rate sensitivity of UHPC. A new model is proposed to predict the splitting tensile strength of CFRP-confined UHPC under impact loading.

Effects of the Pre-Consolidated Materials Manufacturing Method on the Mechanical Properties of Pultruded Thermoplastic Composites

Alexander Vedernikov et al.

Summary: The choice of manufacturing process, raw materials, and process parameters has a significant impact on the quality of pre-consolidated tapes used in thermoplastic pultrusion. This study compared commercially available tapes to inhouse-made tapes, and found that the inhouse-made tapes produced pultruded composites with higher mechanical properties. Differences in the manufacturing methods of pre-consolidated tapes resulted in variations in glass fiber impregnation and mechanical properties.

Shear strengthening of reinforced concrete T-beams with anchored and non-anchored CFRP fabrics

Sakir Yazman et al.

Summary: This study investigated the strengthening of shear deficient T-beams with different CFRP configurations. Results showed that the contribution of EBR to shear capacity is significant and depended on anchorage angle and strengthening type. Among all methods, full wrapping CFRP and partial CFRP with a 45-degree anchorage type yielded the most effective results in enhancing shear capacity and stiffness while improving ductility significantly.

A. Deifalla

Summary: This study aims to develop a mechanical model based on the physical punching shear behavior of FRP-reinforced concrete slabs. An extensive experimental database was collected with 189 FRP-reinforced concrete slabs from 37 different studies. A new mechanical model was developed and proposed based on the critical shear crack theory (CSCT) to accurately predict the strength and rotation of FRP-reinforced concrete slabs under punching shear.

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Load Bearing Capacity of Thinned End Precast Purlin Beams and Solution Proposals

Ceyhun Aksoylu et al.

Summary: The construction sector in Turkey started using concrete prefabrication in the late 1960s, especially in industrial buildings. The main disadvantage of prefabricated structures is the damages that occur, especially in the region of hinged connection, particularly after prolonged snowfall. This study conducted numerical and experimental examinations on the behavior of thinned end purlins under vertical loading, providing a foundation for new parametric studies.
