Blast responses of polyurea retrofitted utility tunnel reinforced with basalt fibre reinforced polymer bars

Jian-nan Zhou et al.

Summary: Polyurea coating and carbon fibre reinforced polymer techniques were used to retrofit a severely damaged urban utility tunnel. The retrofitted tunnel showed comparable or even better blast resistance than the intact one. Using basalt fibre reinforced polymer bars for reinforcement resulted in lower damage and lower retrofitting cost. Analysis using Euler beam theory considering the interaction between soil and structure yielded good agreement with experimental results.

Study on protective performance of impact-resistant polyurea and its coated concrete under impact loading

Hui Guo et al.

Summary: By applying polyurea elastomer coating on concrete, the impact resistance of the concrete can be effectively improved. The position of the coating and the strain rate have an impact on the dynamic properties and failure modes. Increasing impact velocity and incident energy peak can enhance the dissipated energy of the composite specimens.

Polyurea for Blast and Impact Protection: A Review

Rui Zhang et al.

Summary: Polyurea has attracted significant attention in blast and impact protection due to its exceptional quasi-static and dynamic mechanical properties. Its mechanical properties and energy absorption capacity can be adjusted through formulation optimization, molecular dynamics simulation, and the addition of reinforcing materials. The protection mechanism of polyurea against blasts and impacts is the result of the simultaneous effects of multiple properties. Depending on the characteristics of the load, polyurea needs to provide different performance characteristics, such as adhesion, hardness, and breaking elongation. This article reviews relevant publications on polyurea blast and impact protection, including material optimization, protection mechanisms, and applications.

High-hardness polyurea coated steel plates subjected to combined loadings of shock wave and fragments

Long Zhang et al.

Summary: The effect of polyurea on the protective performance of a steel target plate under the combination of shock wave and fragments was investigated. It was found that a polyurea thickness greater than 4 mm could significantly reduce the damage degree of the steel plate, but double-sided coating would aggravate the damage.
