Modifications of Polymers through the Addition of Ultraviolet Absorbers to Reduce the Aging Effect of Accelerated and Natural Irradiation

Gamal A. El-Hiti et al.

Summary: The photooxidative degradation process caused by ultraviolet irradiation can lead to the deterioration of mechanical and physical properties of plastics. Plastic ultraviolet photostabilizers have been developed to counteract this process and enhance the photostability of polymeric materials. Synthetic ultraviolet absorbers have shown promising results in improving the surface morphology and reducing damage caused by UV aging.

Synthesis of New Norfloxacin-Tin Complexes to Mitigate the Effect of Ultraviolet-Visible Irradiation in Polyvinyl Chloride Films

Marwa Fadhil et al.

Summary: Polyvinyl chloride is susceptible to degradation when exposed to high temperatures and sunlight. This research explores the use of new norfloxacin-tin complexes as additives to inhibit the photodegradation of polyvinyl chloride. The complexes were found to effectively reduce the photodegradation of polyvinyl chloride when added at low concentrations.

Enhanced sulfidization flotation mechanism of smithsonite in the synergistic activation system of copper-ammonium species

Wenjuan Zhao et al.

Summary: Copper-ammonium species were introduced to improve surface sulfidization and flotation performance, showing superior activation compared to individual copper ions. This improved reactivity between the mineral surface and sulfide and xanthate species. The research results provide a potential technology for efficient recovery of zinc oxide minerals through sulfidization xanthate flotation.

Synthesis of Carvedilol-Organotin Complexes and Their Effects on Reducing Photodegradation of Poly(Vinyl Chloride)

Omar G. Mousa et al.

Summary: The photostability of PVC can be enhanced by adding synthesized tin complexes, which inhibit photodegradation induced by UV irradiation; organotin with a high content of aromatics is particularly efficient in this process. Carvedilol tin complexes not only absorb UV light, but also scavenge radicals, hydrochloride, and peroxides, stabilizing PVC in the presence of UV irradiation.

Substituted Organotin Complexes of 4-Methoxybenzoic Acid for Reduction of Poly(vinyl Chloride) Photodegradation

Angham G. Hadi et al.

Summary: Poly(vinyl chloride) can undergo degradation when exposed to radiation and high temperatures, but the addition of stabilizers, such as tin complexes of 4-methoxybenzoic acid, can inhibit this degradation and enhance its stability. By doping PVC with these tin complexes, the stability of the material under ultraviolet light irradiation is improved, resulting in reduced weight loss and molecular fragmentation.

FTIR, Weight, and Surface Morphology of Poly(vinyl chloride) Doped with Tin Complexes Containing Aromatic and Heterocyclic Moieties

Anaheed A. Yaseen et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effectiveness of trimethoprim-tin complexes as PVC additives, showing that the complexes lower both photodecomposition and photo-oxidation levels in PVC films exposed to ultraviolet irradiation compared to blank films. The aromaticity of the additives plays a key role in their photostabilizing effects, with the complex containing three phenyl groups attached to the tin cation exhibiting the most stabilizing effect on PVC. Various mechanisms have been proposed to explain the role of the synthesized complexes in PVC photostabilization.
