A novel ceramifiable epoxy composite with enhanced fire resistance and flame retardance

Dong Zhao et al.

Summary: A novel epoxy composite with flame retardance and fire resistance was successfully prepared by incorporating silicate glass frit (SGF) and ammonium polyphosphate (APP) into the epoxy resin. The composite exhibited excellent flame retardance, with lower heat release rate, total heat release, and total smoke production compared to the pure epoxy resin. The unique phase separation and crystallization reactions at high temperatures, investigated through various analytical techniques, were found to significantly improve the fire resistance of the epoxy composite.

Experimental Investigation on Low-Velocity Impact Performance of 3D Woven Textile Composites

Yajun Liu et al.

Summary: The objective of this experimental study is to develop impact-resistant 3D woven textile-reinforced composites and clarify the relationship between woven structure, mechanical performance, and failure mode. Six types of 3D woven structures with different binder-yarn paths were designed and manufactured using a modified heddle position system on a self-built 3D weaving loom. Low-velocity drop-weight impact tests were conducted on the composites to study the effect of woven structure on their out-of-plane mechanical performance. The optimal structure was found to be the through-thickness angle-interlock woven structure for a quasi-penetration energy of 30 J. The results also showed that the woven structure has a significant influence on the failure mode, with angle-interlock woven structures exhibiting limited delamination failure and maintaining structural integrity after impact.

Comparison of Tensile Properties of Carbon Fiber, Basalt Fiber and Hybrid Fiber Reinforced Composites Under Various Strain Rates

Yuanheng Yao et al.

Summary: CFRE, BFRE, and their mixtures show strain rate sensitivity. In the quasi-static state, the peak forces of the hybrid structures are between BFRE and CFRE, while in the dynamic state, the mechanical properties of the hybrid structures are worse than BFRE and CFRE. The hybrid composites are also sensitive to strain rates.

Imidazole substituted benzothiadiazole derivatives as latent curing agent for epoxy thermosetting resin

Jie Zhang et al.

Summary: This study developed a new imidazole thermal latent curing agent, BTD-MZ(2), and investigated its effects on the curing behavior and storage time of EP system. The results showed that BTD-MZ(2) had a good latent period at low temperature and promoted the curing reaction of EP. Additionally, BTD-MZ(2) could be used as a co-curing agent for EP.
