Structure and Properties of Reactively Extruded Opaque Post-Consumer Recycled PET

Maria Virginia Candal et al.

Summary: The recyclability of opaque PET containing TiO2 nanoparticles has not been well-studied compared to transparent PET. This study found that adding Joncryl during reactive extrusion can increase molecular weight, but this increase in chain length does not explain the decrease in crystallization rate. Furthermore, the reactive extruded REX-r-PET showed important structural modifications and enhanced rheological and mechanical properties due to the production of chain extension and long-chain branches.

Enhancement of the fatigue life of recycled PP by incorporation of recycled opaque PET collected from household milk bottle wastes

O. Tramis et al.

Summary: Opaque PET has been introduced as dairy packaging, but its recyclability is now an issue. Initiatives in Europe are focusing on turning waste into resources, with a key challenge being efficient sorting of plastic solid waste to address the growing amounts of opaque PET.
