Spatial correlation among cultivated land intensive use and carbon emission efficiency: A case study in the Yellow River Basin, China

Xiao Zhou et al.

Summary: This study explores the relationship between cultivated land intensive use (CLIU) and carbon emission efficiency (CEE) in the Yellow River Basin (YRB), China, and analyzes their spatiotemporal characteristics and spatial correlation. The study finds that CLIU and carbon emissions in the YRB are continuously increasing, while carbon emission efficiency initially decreases and then increases, and pure technical efficiency gradually declines. High carbon emissions are concentrated in the eastern areas of the YRB, while high CLIU and carbon emission efficiency are predominantly found in the eastern areas, followed by central and western areas. The findings of this study are important for formulating low-carbon and efficient land use policies.

Non-Farm Employment, Farmland Renting and Farming Ability: Evidence from China

Jinning Li et al.

Summary: This article examines the relationship between farmland renting activity and non-farm employment in the process of China's urbanization. The results show that farmland renting-out promotes non-farm employment, while farmland renting-in reduces it. Furthermore, non-farm employment encourages farmland renting-out and decreases farmland renting-in. The findings suggest the need for further reform of the land system in rural areas to facilitate land-use-right transfer and promote the farmland rental market.

A Configurational Analysis of Family Farm Management Efficiency: Evidence from China

Wencheng Li et al.

Summary: Family farms are considered the most desirable type of agricultural production and management entities in China. This study finds that the efficiency of family farms in China is still relatively low and can be improved through the combination of factors such as the introduction of new technology and equipment, long land transfer periods, high production and labor input, and financial support. The managerial implications include considering intensive and efficient management strategies, focusing on the accumulation of human capital, and creating a favorable institutional environment and increasing financial support for family farms.

Positive impacts of farmland fragmentation on agricultural production efficiency in Qilu Lake watershed: Implications for appropriate scale management

Peiheng Yu et al.

Summary: Farmland fragmentation is a spatial boundary pattern and self-organisation process that is influenced by various factors. It has significant impacts on farmland use and management. The research findings in the Qilu Lake watershed of Yunnan Province, China show that farmland fragmentation is severe and heterogeneous, influenced by factors such as topography and natural disasters. Farmland fragmentation can be an effective risk management strategy to promote agricultural production. The study emphasizes the importance of considering both the negative and positive effects of farmland fragmentation in policy-making.

Spatiotemporal Pattern Differentiation and Influencing Factors of Cultivated Land Use Efficiency in Hubei Province under Carbon Emission Constraints

Pengnan Xiao et al.

Summary: This study measured and analyzed the cultivated land use efficiency in 72 counties of Hubei Province using various models. The results showed significant regional differences and temporal variation characteristics in the cultivated land use efficiency in Hubei Province, with relatively low values when considering carbon emissions. The measured results of the super SBM undesirable model showed that the cultivated land utilization efficiency of mountain and hill areas was higher than that of plain areas.

Development of agricultural land markets in countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia

Maxim Gorgan et al.

Summary: Agricultural land markets in Eastern Europe and Central Asia are weak and face constraints such as informalities, absent owners, technical errors, and complicated transaction procedures. Most countries have fragmented farm structures and small average farm sizes. It is important to establish coherent national land policies and utilize land consolidation and land banking as land management instruments for agricultural and rural development.

An experimental analysis of German farmers' decisions to buy or rent farmland

Matthias Buchholz et al.

Summary: This study applies a discrete choice experiment to analyze German farmers' decisions on buying and renting farmland. The results reveal that farmers have a higher preference for buying rather than renting farmland. Direct payments significantly increase farmers' willingness to both buy and rent farmland. Moreover, farmers' decisions deviate substantially from normative predictions from the present value model.

Impact of Relationship Governance and Third-Party Intervention on Farmland Transfer Rents-Empirical Evidence from Rural China

Jia Chen et al.

Summary: This paper empirically analyzes the impact of relationship governance and third-party intervention on the farmland rental market. The results show that relationship governance can reduce post transaction cost, but its influence is gradually replaced by third-party intervention, leading to rental fees approaching market prices.

Involution Effect: Does China's Rural Land Transfer Market Still Have Efficiency?

Shichao Yuan et al.

Summary: This paper examines the impact of the rural land transfer market on agricultural technical efficiency and finds that the market has significant stimulating and involution effects on agricultural technical efficiency. The stimulating effect is mainly concentrated in the main grain producing areas, while the involution effect is mainly concentrated in the non-main grain producing areas. Overall, the involution effect surpasses the stimulating effect, resulting in a inhibition effect on agricultural technical efficiency.

Dynamic Evolution and the Mechanism behind the Coupling Coordination Relationship between Industrial Integration and Urban Land-Use Efficiency: A Case Study of the Yangtze River Economic Zone in China

Kun Ge et al.

Summary: This paper explores the dynamic coupling relationship between industrial integration and urban land-use efficiency (ULUE) and provides a system for evaluating this relationship. The study finds that there are spatial differences in the coupling coordination relationship among cities in the Yangtze River Economic Zone. The lag of the industrial integration level is a key factor affecting the improvement of the coupling coordination level. There is a significant interaction between industrial integration and ULUE in the Yangtze River Economic Zone.
