Meta-analysis and validation of genomic loci governing seedling and reproductive stage salinity tolerance in rice

Nitish Ranjan Prakash et al.

Summary: Using meta-analysis, we predicted and validated Meta-QTLs contributing to salinity tolerance at the seedling and reproductive stages in rice. We identified a significant genomic region that plays an important role in seedling stage salinity tolerance and can be used in breeding programs.

Meta-QTL analysis and candidate genes identification for various abiotic stresses in maize (Zea mays L.) and their implications in breeding programs

Seema Sheoran et al.

Summary: Global climate change causes various abiotic stresses that affect maize production. Meta-QTL analysis is conducted to identify stable QTL for developing abiotic stress tolerance in maize. This study analyzed 542 QTLs from 33 published studies and identified 32 meta-QTLs and 1907 candidate genes related to different abiotic stresses.

Meta-QTL analysis explores the key genes, especially hormone related genes, involved in the regulation of grain water content and grain dehydration rate in maize

Wei Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, meta-QTL analysis was used to integrate 282 QTLs related to GDR and GWC. A total of 11 MQTLs associated with GDR and 34 MQTLs associated with GWC were identified. The average CI of GDR and GWC MQTLs was significantly reduced compared to the average QTL interval. Furthermore, a large number of candidate genes related to GDR and GWC, including genes related to hormone metabolism, were identified in the MQTL intervals.

Genetic dissection of Striga hermonthica (Del.) Benth. resistance via genome-wide association and genomic prediction in tropical maize germplasm

Manje Gowda et al.

Summary: This study evaluated a diverse set of tropical maize lines for Striga resistance, detected quantitative trait loci associated with resistance through GWAS, and assessed the effectiveness of genomic prediction in breeding for resistance. Results showed the polygenic nature of resistance to S. hermonthica and suggested that implementation of genomic prediction could potentially increase genetic gain for this important trait.

Association analysis for resistance to Striga hermonthica in diverse tropical maize inbred lines

A. E. Stanley et al.

Summary: This study utilized a genome-wide association study to identify key SNPs associated with Striga resistance and proposed candidate genes for improving maize Striga resistance breeding. High heritability estimates were observed under Striga infested conditions, and various multi-locus approaches were employed to identify relevant SNPs. Marker-effect prediction helped in identifying alleles responsible for high yield and low Striga damage rating in the breeding panel.

Meta-QTL Analysis in Rice and Cross-Genome Talk of the Genomic Regions Controlling Nitrogen Use Efficiency in Cereal Crops Revealing Phylogenetic Relationship

Nitika Sandhu et al.

Summary: This study identified 76 MQTL with stable effects related to improving rice grain yield by conducting meta-QTL analysis on 1,330 QTL from 29 studies over the past 20 years. Candidate genes and hot spot regions associated with correlated traits were identified, with validation conducted on rice and wheat in previous studies. Interventions based on research findings, such as improving nitrogen use efficiency through identification of major genomic regions and candidate genes, present a feasible, simple, and cost-effective solution for addressing challenges in crop improvement programs.

Meta-QTL analysis and identification of candidate genes for quality, abiotic and biotic stress in durum wheat

Jose Miguel Soriano et al.

Summary: The genetic improvement and enhancement of plant performance in durum wheat largely rely on stable QTL identification and closely linked molecular markers. This study conducted a comprehensive meta-QTL analysis on 45 traits of durum wheat, identifying a total of 368 QTL distributed across all 14 chromosomes of genomes A and B. These QTL were further grouped into 85 meta-QTL (MQTL), with quality-related traits having the highest number of QTL, followed by abiotic and biotic stress-related traits. This work will aid in the development of new cultivars with specific quantitative traits and accelerate breeding programs.
