The role of FoxO1 and its modulation with small molecules in the development of diabetes mellitus: A review

Joshua Nathanael et al.

Summary: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a metabolic disorder influenced by various factors, with FoxO1 playing a key role in its development. While FoxO1 activation is considered detrimental in promoting high blood glucose levels and insulin resistance, it also has a protective role in alleviating oxidative stress and promoting cell survival. Targeting FoxO1 with small molecules presents contrasting approaches in combating diabetes mellitus.

IQGAP1 enhances cell invasion and matrix metalloproteinase-2 expression through upregulating NF-kappa B activity in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma cells

Zhen Zhang et al.

Summary: This study found that IQGAP1 is highly expressed in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) and is positively correlated with MMP2 expression. IQGAP1 overexpression promotes the growth, migration, and invasion of ESCC cells, upregulates MMP2 expression, and increases NF-kappa B expression and nuclear localization. Treatment with PDTC or JSH-23 can reverse IQGAP1-mediated cell migration and invasion ability, as well as MMP2 expression.

Iron Dyshomeostasis and Ferroptosis: A New Alzheimer's Disease Hypothesis?

Feixue Wang et al.

Summary: Iron plays a crucial role in the human body, but its accumulation in the brain is associated with cognitive decline in Alzheimer's disease. Abnormal iron metabolism leads to iron deposition and promotes the progression of Alzheimer's disease. Furthermore, iron deposition can trigger iron-mediated cell death and result in neuronal loss. Therefore, targeting iron metabolism could be a promising therapeutic approach for Alzheimer's disease.
