Enhanced adsorption performance for antibiotics by alcohol-solvent mediated boron nitride nanosheets

Hao-Feng Wu et al.

Summary: The study introduced an alcohol-solvent mediated strategy to improve the adsorption efficiency of hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets for tetracycline removal from contaminated water. The BNNSs synthesized with n-propanol solvent exhibited the largest pore volume and relatively high specific surface area, resulting in enhanced adsorption performance and potential application prospect in wastewater treatment.

Photoelectric and magnetic properties of boron nitride nanosheets with turbostratic structure and oxygen doping

Chaochao Cao et al.

Summary: Turbostratic and oxygen-doped hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets with abundant defect sites were synthesized by pyrolyzing a mixture of melamine cyanurate and boric acid. Analysis revealed highly disordered structures and covalent oxygen-doping in the nanosheets, resulting in increased unpaired electrons, localized charge asymmetry, and enhanced spin polarization. Compared to bulk h-BN, the TO-BNNSs exhibited a lower optical bandgap, higher dielectric constant, increased saturation magnetic moment, and enlarged coercivity. These findings suggest that h-BN materials with turbostratic structure and heteroatom-doping have great potential in nanoscale optics, electronics, and magnetics.

Microscopic adsorption mechanism of montmorillonite for common ciprofloxacin emerging contaminant: Molecular dynamics simulation and Multiwfn wave function analysis

Hongling Zhang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the adsorption properties of montmorillonite on ciprofloxacin and explores the different mechanisms at varying pH levels. Through X-ray diffraction and Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy, the research reveals the interaction between Mt and different CIP species. Molecular dynamics simulation is used for the first time to investigate the arrangement and behavior of cationic CIP in the interlayer of Mt, providing insights into the atomic level microscopic perspective of the adsorption mechanism.

Hierarchical porous boron nitride with boron vacancies for improved adsorption performance to antibiotics

Yanhong Chao et al.

Summary: The hierarchical porous boron nitride nanosheets with boron vacancies (Bv-BNNSs) were synthesized via a one-step ZnCl2-assisted strategy, resulting in controllable tuning of morphological and electronic structures and a specific surface area as high as 1104 m(2)/g. The sorption capacity was boosted by 38% due to the pi-pi interaction mechanism. DFT calculations verified the enhanced interaction energy between Bv-BNNSs and tetracycline, indicating great potential in practical wastewater treatment.

Ultrathin h-BN/Bi2MoO6 heterojunction with synergetic effect for visible-light photocatalytic tetracycline degradation

Zhao Du et al.

Summary: A series of ultrathin h-BN/Bi2MoO6 heterojunction with excellent photocatalytic activity was prepared via a solvothermal method, showing high degradation ratios of tetracycline antibiotics under visible-light irradiation. The synergistic effect between h-BN and Bi2MoO6 led to effective photogenerated carrier separation and polarization of tetracycline molecules, demonstrating the potential for the design of more efficient visible-light photocatalysts.
