Comparison of a bolt-connected external ventricular drain with a tunneled external ventricular drain - a narrative review and meta-analysis

Kanwaljeet Garg et al.

Summary: The bolt-connected EVD showed significantly better chances of optimal placement, lower risk of CSF infection, and reduced accidental disconnection compared to traditional tunneled EVD. However, there was no significant difference between the two techniques in terms of complications like multiple punctures, iatrogenic intracranial hemorrhage, and need for reoperation. Further prospective studies are needed to confirm these findings due to the retrospective nature of the included studies.
