Effects of SGLT2 inhibitors on patients with diabetic kidney disease: A preliminary study on the basis of podocyturia

Emre Durcan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of sodium glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) on the glomerulus in patients with diabetic kidney disease (DKD), by evaluating podocyturia. The results showed that male patients receiving SGLT2i had better DKD-related parameters and podocyturia levels compared to baseline and the control group, suggesting that SGLT2i may have structural benefits for glomerular health.

Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells attenuate podocyte injury under high glucose via TLR2 and TLR4 signaling

Yinghui Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that high glucose reduces the viability of podocytes, activates the TLR2 and TLR4 signaling pathway, and increases the expression of inflammatory cytokines in podocytes and DN mice. However, HUC-MSCs can alleviate inflammation and inhibit the TLR signaling pathway caused by high glucose, both in vitro and in vivo.

Mechanism of miR-365 in regulating BDNF-TrkB signal axis of HFD/STZ induced diabetic nephropathy fibrosis and renal function

Peng Zhao et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that miR-365 plays a crucial role in the progression of DN by regulating the BDNF-TrkB signaling axis, which can inhibit renal fibrosis. These findings suggest miR-365 as a promising biomarker for future DN treatment.

Update on the Mechanisms of Tubular Cell Injury in Diabetic Kidney Disease

Jingsheng Chang et al.

Summary: Evidence suggests that proximal tubular (PT) injury plays an important role in the progression of diabetic kidney disease (DKD), leading to the identification of potential new biomarkers and drug targets. Factors such as high glucose transport state and mismatched local hypoxia may initiate PT injury in DKD patients, with other mechanisms interacting to create a vicious circle. PT injury eventually leads to tubulointerstitial inflammation and fibrosis in DKD.

Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells reduce oxidative damage and apoptosis in diabetic nephropathy by activating Nrf2

Ping Nie et al.

Summary: The study found that human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells can attenuate renal oxidative damage and apoptosis in type 2 diabetic nephropathy by activating Nrf2. Additionally, activation of the PI3K signaling pathway may help in improving diabetic nephropathy using human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells.
