Mutations in DNAH8 contribute to multiple morphological abnormalities of sperm flagella and male infertility

Mingxiang Weng et al.

Summary: Compound heterozygous mutations in the DNAH8 gene may be responsible for multiple morphological abnormalities of the sperm flagella (MMAF), leading to decreased DNAH8 protein expression in the sperm tail and abnormal flagellum ultrastructure. Clinical pregnancy could be achieved by intracytoplasmic sperm injection, indicating the potential impact of DNAH8 mutations on male infertility.

Ochratoxin A induces nephrotoxicity in vitro and in vivo via pyroptosis

Hu Li et al.

Summary: Ochratoxin A (OTA) can induce renal injury through NLRP3 inflammasome activation and caspase-1-dependent pyroptosis. Both in vivo and in vitro experiments demonstrated that OTA exposure leads to renal fibrosis and inflammation, which can be alleviated by inhibiting NLRP3 activation and pyroptosis.

Glycolysis-associated lncRNAs identify a subgroup of cancer patients with poor prognoses and a high-infiltration immune microenvironment

Kuo-Hao Ho et al.

Summary: Through the investigation of glycolysis-associated lncRNAs in cancer, we identified a subgroup of patients stratified by different lncRNA profiles, with significant associations to survival rates, gene mutations, molecular subtypes, and immune cell infiltration. This study provides new directions for cancer therapy by revealing the potential roles of glycolysis-associated lncRNAs in cancer progression.

Creatine-mediated crosstalk between adipocytes and cancer cells regulates obesity-driven breast cancer

Olivia A. Maguire et al.

Summary: The study identified the key role of crosstalk between mammary adipocytes and neoplastic cells in promoting obesity-driven breast cancer progression. Glycine amidinotransferase (Gatm) in adipocytes and Acsbg1 in cancer cells were found to be crucial for this process.

M2 Macrophage-Derived Exosomes Promote Angiogenesis and Growth of Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma by Targeting E2F2

Yuhan Yang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that exosomes derived from M2 macrophages can promote angiogenesis in PDAC, leading to accelerated tumor growth. By transferring miR-155-5p and miR-221-5p to endothelial cells, the interaction between TAMs and angiogenesis in PDAC was further confirmed. Targeting exosomal miRNAs from TAMs may provide diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for PDAC.

Creatine promotes cancer metastasis through activation of Smad2/3

Liwen Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that creatine promotes colorectal and breast cancer metastasis and shortens mouse survival. By inhibiting GATM or MPS1, cancer metastasis can be reduced and mouse survival can be extended.

Lenvatinib Targets FGF Receptor 4 to Enhance Antitumor Immune Response of Anti-Programmed Cell Death-1 in HCC

Chenhe Yi et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that lenvatinib can enhance the efficacy of anti-PD-1 therapy in HCC by reducing tumor PD-L1 levels and inhibiting Treg differentiation through targeting FGFR4. Levels of FGFR4 expression and Treg infiltration in tumors could serve as biomarkers for selecting patients with HCC who may benefit from lenvatinib plus anti-PD-1 combination therapy.

Cell death in pancreatic cancer: from pathogenesis to therapy

Xin Chen et al.

Summary: Pancreatic cancer is a devastating gastrointestinal cancer with late diagnosis, limited treatment success and poor prognosis, primarily composed of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). The occurrence and progression of PDAC are influenced by various factors, and the exact impact of cell death on PDAC is not yet well described.
