The Weiss Ring, a Major Confounding Factor For Measurements of Peripapillary Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Thickness

Min-woo Lee et al.

Summary: The study aims to identify the impact of the Weiss ring on the measurement of mean and sectoral peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (pRNFL) thicknesses. It found that eyes with a Weiss ring showed thinner pRNFL thicknesses compared to normal eyes, especially in the inferior sector. This could be a significant confounding factor in the analysis of pRNFL changes, particularly in patients with glaucoma.
