Mid-infrared emission properties of the Tm3+-doped sesquioxide crystals Y2O3, Lu2O3, Sc2O3 and mixed compounds (Y,Lu,Sc)2O3 around 1.5-, 2-and 2.3-μm

R. Moncorge et al.

Summary: The study focused on the absorption and emission properties of Tm3+-doped sesquioxides Y2O3, Lu2O3, and Sc2O3 at different wavelengths. It was discovered that only 75% of the Tm3+ ions were involved in the absorption and emission spectra, leading to calculations of cross sections for important excited-state transitions.

Spectral broadening mechanism of Yb3+-doped cubic LuxSc2-xO3 sesquioxide crystals for ultrafast lasers

Ruiqi Guo et al.

Summary: Yb3+-doped cubic sesquioxide crystals have been considered ideal gain materials for ultrafast laser generation due to their high thermal conductivity and suitable optical characteristics. This paper investigates the mechanism of the crystal field effect on spectral broadening and describes the spectral broadening process caused by the combination of crystal field effect and electron-phonon coupling widening in mixed host materials.

Spectroscopic investigation and laser behaviour of Yb-doped laser ceramics based on mixed crystalline structure (ScxY1-x)2O3

Angela Pirri et al.

Summary: The spectroscopic and laser characterization of Yb-doped (ScxY1-x)(2)O-3 ceramics revealed the influence of Sc3+ content on energy level lifetime, absorption, and emission cross sections, as well as the shifting of Yb3+ emission peaks towards longer wavelengths with increased Sc3+ content. Laser tests showed good performance, with a broad tuning range achieved in one compositionally disordered Yb-doped ceramic sample.

Spectroscopy and efficient laser operation around 2.8 μm of Er:(Lu,Sc)2O3 sesquioxide ceramics

Liza Basyrova et al.

Summary: A transparent mixed 7 at.% Er:(Lu,Sc)(2)O-3 sesquioxide ceramic was fabricated by hot isostatic pressing of commercial sesquioxide powders at 1750 degrees C/200 MPa in argon atmosphere. It exhibited excellent optical properties with high signal transmission and high slope efficiency. The study of crystal-field splitting of Er3+ multiplets revealed the significant inhomogeneous broadening of spectral bands in the ceramic material.

Kerr-lens mode-locked Tm-doped sesquioxide ceramic laser

Yongguang Zhao et al.

Summary: This study explores Kerr-lens mode-locked solid-state laser operation at around 2 μm. By using a Tm3+-doped Lu; Sc/O-2(3) mixed sesquioxide ceramic as the gain medium, pulses as short as 58 fs are generated at around 2081 nm. The average output power reaches 220 mW with a pulse repetition rate of 84.8 MHz, and the emitted spectrum extends to > 2.2 μm, attributed to vibronic transitions of the Tm3+ ions, which are essential for generating pulses in the 50 fs range.
