Crocus sativus (saffron) petals extract and its active ingredient, anthocyanin improves ovarian dysfunction, regulation of inflammatory genes and antioxidant factors in testosterone-induced PCOS mice

Fazeleh Moshfegh et al.

Summary: This study examined the effects of saffron petal extract (SPE) and saffron petal anthocyanins (SPA) on ovarian hormones, steroidogenic enzymes, ovarian dysfunction, regulation of anti-inflammatory genes, and antioxidant factors in female PCOS mice. The results suggest that SPE and SPA can improve dysregulation of ovarian steroids, steroidogenic enzymes, antioxidant enzymes and inflammatory markers in PCOS mice, ameliorating symptoms of PCOS.

The anti-androgenic effect of quercetin on hyperandrogenism and ovarian dysfunction induced in a dehydroepiandrosterone rat model of polycystic ovary syndrome

Asmaa A. Mahmoud et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that quercetin and metformin both show anti-androgenic effects in a DHEA-induced PCOS rat model, reducing hyperandrogenism and improving ovarian function. Both treatments increase estradiol levels, decrease atretic follicles, and prevent cyst formation in PCOS rats. In addition, quercetin and metformin can enhance folliculogenesis and reduce atresia through attenuation of hyperandrogenism.

Preclinical Evidence of Paeoniflorin Effectiveness for the Management of Cerebral Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Anzhu Wang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects and underlying mechanisms of paeoniflorin (PF) on cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury. Meta-analysis results showed that compared to the control group, PF significantly reduced neurological severity scores, cerebral infarction size, brain water content, apoptosis cells, and levels of inflammatory factors. Therefore, PF may be a promising therapeutic for managing cerebral I/R injury.

Bio-enhancement of Soy Isoflavones (Genistein & Daidzein) Using Bacillus coagulans in Letrozole Induced Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome by Regulating Endocrine Hormones in Rats

Jeshica Bulsara et al.

Summary: This study investigated the enhancement of bioactivity of soy isoflavones (SIF) by Bacillus coagulans (B. coagulans). Animal experiments showed that the combination of SIF and B. coagulans restored hormone balance, reduced oxidative stress, improved the menstrual cycle, and enhanced ovarian physiology. The study also revealed that a higher dose of B. coagulans was more effective in alleviating symptoms of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).

Anti-obesity properties and mechanism of action of flavonoids: A review

Anne Karoline de Souza Oliveira et al.

Summary: Flavonoids, a group of natural substances, have shown promising anti-obesity effects by modulating various biological activities that decrease lipogenesis, increase lipolysis, expend energy, stimulate fatty acids B-oxidation, as well as digestion and metabolism of carbohydrates. Additionally, flavonoids can mitigate inflammatory responses and suppress oxidative stress, making them potential compounds for treating obesity and its associated comorbidities.
