A combined experimental-analytical modeling study of the artificial aging response of Al-Mg-Si alloys

Yoojin Kim et al.

Summary: Experimental tracking of the isothermal aging response at 170 degrees C of three extruded Al-Mg-Si alloys revealed the influence of Mg + Si content and the Mg/Si ratio on microstructure and mechanical behavior. High Mg + Si content increased the number density of beta precipitates, while a higher Mg/Si ratio decreased the size of beta precipitates in the peak-aged condition. It was observed that coarsening of beta precipitates primarily occurred along its length in the overaged condition.

Grain-orientation induced stress formation in AA2024 monocrystal and bicrystal using Crystal Plasticity Finite Element Method

Qi Zhao et al.

Summary: The stress formation in monocrystals and bicrystals of AA2024 alloy is controlled by factors such as maximum Schmid factor, equivalent initial slip system, and grain boundary stress. Goss and Cube grains are not the best for relieving stress concentration in bicrystals, but they are effective in relieving grain boundary stress. A comprehensive factor considering contributions from 5 independent slip systems improves its dependence on grain boundary stress significantly.
