Polyformaldehyde-based microfluidics and application in enhanced oil recovery

A layer of adhesive polyester film is attached to seal the microchannels, and bonding strength is enhanced with compression. Poly(acrylic acid) as an adhesion promoter for UV-assisted thermoplastic bonding: Application for the in vitro construction of human blood vessels

Summary: A novel adhesion bonding method using PAA as a UV-assisted adhesion promoter was introduced in this study for fabricating thermoplastic microdevices, achieving covalent cross-links between PMMA and PAA. The method demonstrated high bond strength, leak-proof microdevices, and clog-free microchannels with various sizes. Additionally, electrostatic interaction between PAA and collagen facilitated on-device cell culture, enabling the realization of a layered co-culture model of SMCs and HUVECs inside simple straight microchannels mimicking human blood vessel wall.

Measurement of respiration and acidification rates of mammalian cells in thermoplastic microfluidic devices

Summary: We proposed a microfluidic cell culture device with integrated optical chemical sensors for monitoring dissolved oxygen, pH levels, respiration, and acidification rates. A thermoplastic polymer chip material enabled the measurement of respiration rates, not feasible with PDMS-based microfluidics. This measurement method was successfully demonstrated in monitoring the metabolic response of human lung carcinoma cells to a specific drug exposure.
