Effect of post-curing light exposure time on the physico-mechanical properties and cytotoxicity of 3D-printed denture base material

Sultan Aati et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of post curing light exposure time on the physico-mechanical properties and cytotoxicity of a 3D-printed PMMA-based denture material. The results showed that the flexural strength, toughness, and surface hardness of the material significantly improved with longer post curing time, and the cell viability also increased.

CAD-CAM Fabricated Denture Base Resins: In Vitro Investigation of the Minimum Acceptable Denture Base Thickness

Nawarah Alaseef et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of reducing material thickness on the flexural properties of CAD-CAM denture base resins. The results showed that reducing the thickness of materials made via the subtractive method did not significantly affect flexural strength, while it did have an impact on materials made via the additive method. Within certain thickness ranges, these materials still exhibited clinically acceptable flexural properties.

Strength and Surface Properties of a 3D-Printed Denture Base Polymer

Mohammed M. Gad et al.

Summary: This in vitro study examined the mechanical properties of 3D-printed denture base resin after thermal cycling treatment. The results indicated that compared to heat-polymerized resin, 3D-printed resin had lower strength and hardness but higher surface roughness.

Comparison of the flexural and surface properties of milled, 3D-printed, and heat polymerized PMMA resins for denture bases: An in vitro study

Adolfo Di Fiore et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the flexural properties and adhesion of Lactobacillus salivarius, Streptococcus mutans, and Candida albicans on different types of Poly (methylmethacrylate) (PMMA). The results showed that the CAD group had the best flexural properties and the least bacterial adhesion after 90 minutes of incubation.

Postpolymerization of a 3D-printed denture base polymer: Impact of post-curing methods on surface characteristics, flexural strength, and cytotoxicity

Ping Li et al.

Summary: Different post-curing methods did not significantly alter the surface topography and roughness (Ra) of the 3D-printed denture base material. However, specimens post-cured by PCU and PB showed significantly higher flexural strength than other methods. Additionally, various post-curing methods effectively decreased the cytotoxic effects of the 3D-printed denture base polymer.

3D-Printed vs. Heat-Polymerizing and Autopolymerizing Denture Base Acrylic Resins

Leila Perea-Lowery et al.

Summary: The study found that the mechanical properties of the heat-cured polymer were superior to the 3D-printed material under different post-curing methods, and increasing the post-curing temperature could enhance the flexural properties of resin monomers used for 3D-printing dental appliances.

Mechanical Properties of Polymer-Based Blanks for Machined Dental Restorations

Lucian Toma Ciocan et al.

Summary: The significant technological advancements in restorative dentistry and prosthodontics have led to the development of valuable CAD/CAM restorative dental materials with diverse design and improved mechanical, physical, and morphological properties. This research study aimed to compare the micro-mechanical properties of various CAD/CAM restorations used in clinical dentistry, finding the hybrid ceramic-based CAD/CAM to have the highest properties, followed by CAD/CAM PMMA-graphene, and the lowest in CAD/CAM multilayered PMMA.

CAD-CAM complete denture resins: an evaluation of biocompatibility, mechanical properties, and surface characteristics

Murali Srinivasan et al.

Summary: The study found that CAD-CAM milled and rapidly-prototyped complete denture resins performed similarly in terms of biocompatibility and surface roughness, but milled resins were superior to rapidly-prototyped resins in terms of mechanical properties. The printing orientation and type of 3D printer used can affect the resin strength and surface roughness.
