The Parallel Reaction Monitoring-Parallel Accumulation-Serial Fragmentation (prm-PASEF) Approach for Multiplexed Absolute Quantitation of Proteins in Human Plasma

Alexander Brzhozovskiy et al.

Summary: Mass spectrometry-based quantitative proteomic methods, such as prm-PASEF, are important tools for protein biomarker discovery and validation. This study demonstrated the use of prm-PASEF for absolute protein quantitation in human plasma, with improved sensitivity and a broad dynamic range. The prm-PASEF method showed excellent correlation with MRM, highlighting its suitability for absolute quantitative proteomics.

Proteomic Analysis of Tears and Conjunctival Cells Collected with Schirmer Strips Using timsTOF Pro: Preanalytical Considerations

Murat Akkurt Arslan et al.

Summary: This study used a trapped ion mobility mass spectrometer to investigate the human proteome profile of samples collected from Schirmer strips, identifying a variety of proteins related to cellular processes, metabolic processes, and enzymes. Processing the bulb (B) and the rest of the strip (R) separately before mass spectrometry analysis, along with the use of high data acquisition speed and ion-mobility-based separation, can bring new insights to biomarker investigations of limited samples such as tear fluid.

In vivo and in vitro postovulatory aging: when time works against oocyte quality?

Valentina Di Nisio et al.

Summary: This paper is an updated review on the consequences of postovulatory aging (POA) on oocyte quality, either in vivo or in vitro, with a focus on the modifications caused by POA on oocyte nuclear, cytoplasmic, genomic, and epigenetic maturation, as well as embryo development. The research highlights the importance of considering the effects of POA in assisted reproductive technologies, particularly when the fertilization of mature oocytes is delayed due to unforeseen circumstances.

Shaohua Yang et al.

Summary: The study conducted protein profiling of liver tissues in chicken embryo at different developmental stages and identified differentially abundant proteins related to antioxidant activity. Results showed that the antioxidant enzyme activity in chicken embryo is regulated through various pathways. These findings can serve as important resources for further studies on antioxidant mechanisms in chicken embryo.

Roles for RNA export factor, Nxt1, in ensuring muscle integrity and normal RNA expression in Drosophila

Kevin van der Graaf et al.

Summary: Nxt1 partial loss of function mutants in Drosophila show reduced viability and muscle degeneration, with RNA-seq revealing decreased expression of a set of mRNAs and circRNAs. Rescue of muscle degeneration was achieved by increased expression of the costamere component tn (abba). This study highlights a novel role for the RNA export pathway gene Nxt1 in maintaining muscle integrity and its involvement in the expression of mRNA and circRNA from common precursor genes.
