Interventions for children and adolescents who stutter: A systematic review, meta-analysis, and evidence map

Amanda Brignell et al.

Summary: This systematic review examines the evidence for stuttering interventions in childhood and adolescence, finding that the Lidcombe Program and Demands and Capacities Model are effective in reducing stuttering in preschool aged children. However, there is currently no high-level evidence supporting interventions with school aged children or adolescents. Various treatment delivery methods were found to be as effective as individual face-to-face intervention.

Preliminary study of self-perceived communication competence amongst adults who do and do not stutter

Danielle Werle et al.

Summary: This study found differences in self-perceived communication competence between adults who stutter and those who do not stutter, with stuttering adults reporting lower communication competence. Lower competence scores were associated with more severe stuttering impact, while stuttering frequency did not affect competence scores.

Parents' Perceptions of the Overall Impact of Stuttering on Young Children

Linn Stokke Guttormsen et al.

Summary: Research has shown that stuttering can have a negative impact on young children, affecting their quality of life, communication difficulties, and reactions to stuttering. Parents perceive this impact, but it is important for clinicians and researchers to also consider the perspective of the children. Parents' perceptions of impact are valuable for providing insight into the family's needs.
