On-Line Monitoring of the Tobacco Leaf Composition during Flue-Curing by Near-Infrared Spectroscopy and Deep Transfer Learning

Kesu Wei et al.

Summary: The practicability of on-line monitoring of moisture, starch, protein, and soluble sugars for tobacco leaves by near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy and deep transfer learning was explored. The results showed that NIR spectroscopy combined with a deep learning algorithm accurately predicted the content of these components during the curing process. The study indicated the efficacy of NIR diffuse reflectance spectroscopy as a rapid and nondestructive method for on-line determination of tobacco leaf components.

Comparison of near-infrared, mid-infrared, Raman spectroscopy and near-infrared hyperspectral imaging to determine chemical, structural and rheological properties of apple purees

Weijie Lan et al.

Summary: NIR, MIR, Raman spectroscopy, and HSI were compared for their ability to evaluate the composition and texture of apple purees. The study found that NIR, MIR, and HSI techniques showed good performance in estimating puree composition, while Raman spectroscopy was less accurate. MIR was the most effective tool for identifying factors and predicting texture parameters. These technologies can be prioritized for assessing apple puree quality and texture.

Retrospective quality by design r(QbD) for lactose production using historical process data and design of experiments

Leonardo Galvis et al.

Summary: Quality by Design (QbD) is a popular approach for designing and optimizing industrial production facilities. In retrospective QbD (rQbD) studies, historical production data are used for optimization. However, current rQbD literature has limited discussion on the identification of critical process parameters (CPPs) and does not cover situations with limited process knowledge or the use of parallel equipment. This work presents a new rQbD strategy that balances statistical analysis of historical data with plant-scale experiments and addresses these challenges.
