Therapeutic Approach to Calcified Coronary Lesions: Disruptive Technologies

Keyvan Karimi Galougahi et al.

Summary: In patients with stable ischemic heart disease and acute coronary syndromes, about one third of coronary lesions exhibit moderate or severe calcification, which can lead to unfavorable procedural outcomes. Intravascular imaging technologies such as intravascular ultrasound or optical coherence tomography can guide the treatment of severely calcified lesions, with newer technologies like orbital atherectomy and intravascular lithotripsy expanding the range of available techniques to effectively modify coronary calcium.
