Computational image reconstruction for multi-frequency diffuse optical tomography

Vicky Mudeng et al.

Summary: This study develops a frequency-domain diffuse optical tomography (DOT) algorithm that investigates functional and structural information in biological tissue by numerically simulating light radiance distribution and reconstructing absorption and reduced scattering coefficients. The results show that the performance of the multi-frequency method with two frequencies is similar to the single-frequency method.

A scalable, multi-wavelength, broad bandwidth frequency-domain near-infrared spectroscopy platform for real-time quantitative tissue optical imaging

RA. Stillwell et al.

Summary: Frequency-domain near-infrared spectroscopy (FD-NIRS) offers noninvasive quantitative measurements of tissue optical properties, but traditional systems face challenges in scalability and complexity. To address this, a scalable digital platform with real-time data measurement and high-speed data transfer and processing capabilities has been proposed.

Investigation of effect of modulation frequency on high-density diffuse optical tomography image quality

Weihao Fan et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effects of modulation frequency on image quality using FD-HD-DOT, showing that localization accuracy can be improved by over 40% at depths of 13 to 25 mm with modulation frequencies between 300 to 500 MHz. Considering realistic noise, the reliable field of view in brain tissue can be enlarged by 35% to 48% at the optimal frequency of 300 MHz. These results suggest significant opportunities for further development of high bandwidth FD-HD-DOT systems for human brain mapping applications.
