Low-oxygen rare earth steels

Dianzhong Li et al.

Summary: The variation in mechanical properties of RE steels is found to be caused by the presence of oxygen-based inclusions. A dual low-oxygen technology is proposed to achieve stable and favorable effects by controlling low levels of oxygen content in steel melts and raw RE materials. RE improves steel performance by lowering carbon diffusion rate and retarding ferrite nucleation.
