Subnanometer high-entropy alloy nanowires enable remarkable hydrogen oxidation catalysis

Changhong Zhan et al.

Summary: HEAs have shown superior performance in alkaline hydrogen oxidation reaction, exhibiting high activity and CO poisoning resistance. Density functional theory calculations reveal the unique advantages of HEAs. This study not only provides a method for preparing Pt-based HEA subnano/nano materials, but also promotes fundamental research in catalysis and other fields.

Carbon-Supported High-Entropy Oxide Nanoparticles as Stable Electrocatalysts for Oxygen Reduction Reactions

Tangyuan Li et al.

Summary: This study presents a highly stable and active electrocatalyst with high-entropy oxide (HEO) nanoparticles uniformly dispersed on commercial carbon black, synthesized via rapid high-temperature heating with ten metal elements. The electrocatalyst exhibits good stability and activity during long-term operation, attributed to the high-entropy design and synthetic approach that provide an entropy stabilization effect and strong interfacial bonding between the nanoparticles and carbon substrate.

Limitations of aqueous model systems in the stability assessment of electrocatalysts for oxygen reactions in fuel cell and electrolyzers

Konrad Ehelebe et al.

Summary: Cost and stability are the main technical barriers to commercially viable low-temperature fuel cells and electrolyzers. New approaches to evaluate degradation of electrocatalysts, particularly in addressing differences between fundamental and actual systems, will be a major focus in electrocatalysis research. This includes considering factors such as electrode architecture, electrolyte, reactant and product transport, and operating conditions for improving the stability of electrocatalysts.

Is There Anything Better than Pt for HER?

Johannes Novak Hansen et al.

Summary: Efforts to find cheap alternatives to platinum for the hydrogen evolution reaction have not yet found a catalyst with intrinsic activity that can compete with platinum. It is important to measure intrinsic catalytic activities and consider the impact of mass-transport limitations on observed activity. Despite achieving the highest turnover frequency for platinum, the true intrinsic HER activity for platinum in acid remains unknown due to mass transport limitations.
